Qutub Minar - Qutub Minar, Delhi’s towering monument, epitomizes history and heritage as the world’s tallest brick tower. Its construction spanned four centuries under various rulers. Initially commissioned by Qutb-ud-din Aibak in 1192 as a victory tower, the minaret bears his name, though he only completed its first story. Subsequent rulers, including Shams-ud-din Iltutmish, added three more floors in 1220.
The monument faced challenges, with the topmost story damaged by lightning in 1369. Firoz Shah Tughlaq reconstructed it and added the fifth and final story. Sher Shah Suri built the entrance. In 1803, an earthquake caused significant damage, but Major Robert Smith repaired it in 1828. As part of the restoration, he installed a pillared cupola atop the fifth story, preserving the grandeur of this historical landmark.
