Gwalior Fort: This magnificent fort spans an area of 3 square km and is surrounded by sandstone walls. The Saas-Bahu Temples (two adjacent pillared temples, one larger than the other) are also intriguing. The Man Singh Palace, built by Man Singh in the 15th century, is one of the most remarkable palaces within the Gwalior Fort. Other notable palaces within the fort include the Karan Palace, the Jahangir Mahal, the Shah Jahan Mahal, and the Gujri Mahal (built by Man Singh for his favorite queen, Mrignayani). There are many places to see in Gwalior and within the fort. -
Jai Vilas Palace Museum - Jai Vilas Palace was established in 1874 by Jayajirao Scindia, the Maharaja of Gwalior, and it remains the residence of his descendants. The palace has 400 rooms, 40 of which have been converted into the Jiwaji Rao Scindia Museum. The palace features two Belgian chandeliers in the Durbar Hall, each weighing 7 tonnes, believed to be the largest in the world. Jai Vilas is an Italianate structure that combines Tuscan and Corinthian architectural styles. The Scindia Museum offers an unparalleled glimpse into the rich culture and lifestyle of princely India.
