- Hauz-i-Shamsi - Guests will be collected from their hotel and transported to Mehrauli.
With a knowledgeable guide, explore some of the area’s most renowned monuments, which span nearly a millennium. These include forts, palaces, tombs, havelis (mansions), shrines for deities and mystics, rest houses, and water tanks.
Visit Hauz-i-Shamsi, a water reservoir constructed by the Mamluk Emperor Shams-ud-din Iltutmish in 1230 A.D. The site of the reservoir was revealed to the Emperor by Prophet Muhammad in a dream. At the reservoir’s edge is the tomb of the 17th-century Persian writer, Abdul Haqq Dehlavi.
- Ship Palace (Jahaz Mahal) - On the eastern side of the reservoir is a magnificent palace, whose reflection in the surrounding water resembles a ship, earning it the name ‘Ship Palace’ or Jahaz Mahal. The palace hosts a three-day festival - the Phoolon Walon ki Sair (the procession of florists) that continues to this day.
- Zafar Mahal - The tour concludes at Zafar Mahal, the last monument constructed during the declining years of the Mughal Empire. Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal Emperor, wished to be buried within this palace’s grounds. However, this was not possible as the British exiled him to Burma, where he passed away.
- Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki - Adjacent to the palace is the shrine of Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki, the patron saint of Delhi.
