Chandni Chowk - Originally a half-moon-shaped square in front of the Municipal Townhall, Chandni Chowk’s reflection once shimmered in a moonlit water pool. A shallow water channel from the Yamuna river ran through the middle of the straight road, known as the Chandni Chowk bazaar, flanked by roads and shops. This road featured three bazaars. Designed and established by Princess Jahanara Begum, Shah Jahan’s favorite daughter, in 1650 CE, Chandni Chowk, or the Moonlight Square, and its three bazaars became iconic.

Friday Mosque (Jama Masjid) - The Masjid-i Jehan-Numa (meaning ‘World-reflecting Mosque’), commonly known as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, ranks among India’s largest mosques. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656, it was inaugurated by its first Imam, Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari. Located in Shahjahanabad (now Old Delhi), it served as the imperial mosque for Mughal emperors until the empire’s fall in 1857. The Jama Masjid symbolized Islamic power in India well into the colonial era and held political significance during key periods of British rule. It remains active and is one of Delhi’s most iconic sites, embodying the spirit of Old Delhi.

Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib - Situated in the heart of Chandni Chowk, Delhi’s bustling marketplace, Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib is a historical shrine marking the site where Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, was beheaded in 1675 by order of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Built in Mughal architectural style with sandstone mesh-work windows, pavilions, and parapets, it alternated between serving as a mosque and a gurudwara due to political sensitivities before becoming a full-fledged gurudwara with gold-gilded domes in 1930. It includes a separate building for the Langar (free kitchen) and visitor accommodation, and houses relics from the Guru’s life, such as the well he drank from while imprisoned and the tree under which he was executed.

Khari Baoli - Khari Baoli, a street in Delhi, India, is renowned for its wholesale grocery and Asia’s largest wholesale spice market, offering a variety of spices, nuts, herbs, and food products like rice and tea.

Naughara - Row Of Nine Houses - Naughara translates to nine (nau) homes (ghar), though some sources suggest it means nine pots (ghara) of water for thirsty travelers. Regardless of its origin, Naughara is one of Shahjahanbad’s most charming lanes, accessed through the bustling Kinaari Bazaar. At the lane’s end is the white-marble entrance to the 19th-century Jain Swetamber Mandir, adorned with exotic glasswork and vibrant paintings. Be cautious of the temple attendant, and on your way out, peek into Mr. Atma Ram Agarwal’s office, filled with antiques that might be mistaken for a shop.

Sri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir - Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir is the oldest and most renowned Jain temple in Delhi, located across from the Red Fort in Chandni Chowk. The temple is notable for its avian veterinary hospital, the Jain Birds Hospital, situated in a second building behind the main temple.
