Red Fort - The Red Fort or Lal Qila is a historic fort in Old Delhi, Delhi in India that served as the main residence of the Mughal Emperors. Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned construction of the Red Fort on 12 May 1638, when he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi.

Friday Mosque (Jama Masjid) - The Masjid-i Jehan-Numa, commonly known as the Jama Masjid of Delhi, is one of the largest mosques in India. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656, and inaugurated by its first Imam, Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari.

Chandni Chowk - In the heart of Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk is a busy shopping area with markets full of spices, dried fruit, silver jewelry and vivid saris, while the narrow side streets are crowded with tiny shops selling essential oils, stationery and traditional Indian sweets. Nearby, the vast Mughal-era Red Fort now houses a museum complex, and the 17th-century Jama Masjid is a huge red-sandstone mosque with towering minarets

Raj Ghat - Raj Ghat is a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi in Delhi, India. Originally it was the name of a historic ghat of Old Delhi. Close to it, and east of Daryaganj was Raj Ghat Gate of the walled city, opening at Raj Ghat to the west bank of the Yamuna River. Later the memorial area was also called Raj Ghat.

Delhi’s story dates back to the epic narrative of Mahabharata, bearing the name Indraprastha, the home of the Pandavas. Over time, another eight cities sprang up around Indraprastha, including Lal Kot, Siri, Dinpanah, Quila Rai Pithora, Ferozabad, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad and Shahjahanabad.

In 1192, Rajput town fell into the hands of the Afghan warrior Muhammad of Ghori, leading to the birth of the Delhi Sultanate (1206). The Sultanate came to an end with Timur’s invasion in 1398; the Lodi dynasty, the last of the Delhi Sultans, conceded to Babur who laid the foundation of the Mughal Empire following the Panipat battle in 1526. Agra was initially the preferred capital for the early Mughal emperors. It was only after Shah Jahan constructed the Old Delhi walls (1638), did Delhi became the Mughal’s undeviating government seat.
