Exploring Haridwar
Haridwar, a sacred city in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India, is often referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Gods.’ It is recognized as one of the seven holiest places for Hindus, where it is believed that deities have left their marks. Devotees release floating lamps on the Ganges here to honor their departed loved ones.
In Haridwar, you’ll encounter an impressive statue of Lord Shiva at the river’s confluence. If your time is limited, make sure to visit the hilltop temple, which offers a panoramic view.
Har Ki Pauri
Har Ki Pauri is revered as one of the most sacred Ghats in India. It is said to be the spot where the Ganges first reaches the plains from the Himalayas. This Ghat, also known as Brahma Kund, is where you can see a stone bearing the footprint of Lord Vishnu.
Mansa Devi Temple
Next, you’ll visit the Mansa Devi Temple, also known as Bilwa Tirth, which is believed to fulfill the wishes of its devotees.
Journey from Haridwar to Rishikesh
Following your tour of Haridwar, you’ll drive to Rishikesh. There, you’ll discover two notable bridges, including the Lakshman Jhula, a famous suspension bridge over the sacred Ganges River. This 450-foot-long bridge is suspended 70 feet above the river.
You may have lunch at a local eatery (at your own cost).
Ganga Aarti in Haridwar
After visiting Rishikesh, you’ll return to Haridwar in the evening to attend the Ganga Aarti. This ceremony, which began decades ago, draws thousands of devotees to the Ganga Ghats at Har Ki Pauri.
The Ganga Aarti is renowned throughout India.
You will then be driven back to Delhi and dropped off at your hotel or the airport.
