Also included in the itinerary is a visit to the Agra Fort. This imposing and rust-colored sandstone fort of Agra resides along the Yamuna River. Initiated by Emperor Akbar in 1566, its construction is a sight to behold. Particularly noteworthy is the Diwan-I-Khas (the hall of private audience). Here, marble pavilions adorned with floral inlays render a surreal atmosphere. This is the space where the Emperor, ensconced on his jewel-encrusted Peacock Throne, received foreign diplomats and rulers from allied kingdoms.
