Encompassed by enigma, driven by compelling rhythms, and explored by the most enthralling— and potent— deities of current theology, voodoo has been captivating outsiders since its genesis in New Orleans.
Your expedition initiates on Basin Street, in close proximity to the renowned tomb deemed to hold the remains of Marie Laveau herself. Following a brief discourse on the distinctions between Haitian Voodoo, New Orleans Voodoo, Santeria, and Hoodoo, participants are guided to Congo Square, the location of countless rituals and ceremonies Laveau carried out. Proceeding from this hallowed location, you’ll navigate towards Laveau’s former residence, where she carried out her daily responsibilities of raising her children and conducted spiritual exercises with a large snake draped around her neck during evenings. Tales of zombies, epidemic history, and periodical propaganda are in store for you on Dauphine Street, where your leader will expose the realities about voodoo dolls and traditional Afro-Caribbean medicine, all considering the aspects ancestor reverence and ‘magic’ in America’s Most Haunted City.
