Go, even if you know how to cook - My daughter really wanted to do this and I was a little unsure about it, since I’ve been cooking a long time, but I really enjoyed it. We had a delightful teacher named Rene. We were seated at tables of 8. There were pitchers of water on the table, but you could also get lemonade or tea. A really yummy biscuit and molasses was served right away to snack on while we watched Rene make gumbo, red beans & rice, pecan tarts and pralines. Rene asked everyone where they were from and we happened to be sitting with people from the same town we live in, so that was fun. We took the 10 a.m. class, so that was our brunch for today. After all the food was served, they also offered a bottle of Abita beer, which is a local brew. Of course there is a store attached so you could purchase any spices/sauces they used in the recipes.

Excellent class that I would take again - Fabulous class with demonstration of 3 different items. The instructor provided excellent blend of cooking demonstration with cooking hints and skill building as well as history of how different cultures (French, Cajun, Spanish) and history influenced the food of NOLA today. Very engaging speaker, with enough food served that we were full. All six of us walked away very happy with the class and would have done it again the next day to learn other recipes if we were not already booked with something else. Price was very reasonable for the instruction and food served. If I return to NOLA, this experience will be one of the first things I sign up to attend again.

AN OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE - My wife and I and a friend on Sunday Oct 13 attended the 2 PM cooking demo. My wife and I did this 4 years ago and were so impressed we had to take our friend on this NOLA visit. I do not remember the cook's name, but he was outstanding with his presentation, stories and meal prepared that he shared with all. We were served corn & crab bisque, chicken etouffee and pralines for dessert. This cooking school demo is a must for any NOLA visitor. With the assortment of demos presented each day one cannot go wrong with attending one. We purchased the class act cookbook, Joe's stuff original, Rex crab boil, Rex Cajun Trinity with garlic and the Rex Gumbo file to help us prepare delicious meals for ourselves and guest. Thank you NOLA cooking school.
