Highlight of the trip - We went to New York back in January and this was hands down the best thing we did! Corey was a wonderful guide and honestly made my wife and I feel like we've all been friends for a long time. The places he took us were absolutely amazing and places that we wouldn't have found on our own. 15/10 recommend signing up for his tour if you are in town, you will not regret it!

Interesting tour, excellent recommendations - Great tour, but the most valuable part was the recommendations for other restaurants. Corey offered up around fifteen places, eight of which we tried during our time in NYC; none disappointed, and all were very reasonably priced, and felt 'local'. Make sure to ask for places near where you live, and make sure to try those with novel cuisines! We took this tour in January, and were lucky (based on other feedback) to have only a small group of people from all over the world, which provided a great friendly atmosphere. Corey was knowledgeable and informative, if occasionally brusque, and took us to a number of excellent cheap eats, as advertised. Ensure that you read the T&Cs when booking; there are several important things to note, but if you follow the instructions you'll be absolutely fine! The tour is pretty cheap if you go as a pair, enabling you to share food and reduce your bill while maintaining your appetite.

Great out of the way experience - Booked Corey’s food tour & would definitely recommend it. After the necessary booking in was taken care of we headed off with our group of about 20 - Corey gently encourages the group to get to know each other while enjoying being escorted to interesting & tasty small venues. Enjoyed authentic pizza, over flowing tacos, crispy chicken & 2 delicious bakeries - long standing Greek family one & famous pie baker. Corey shares his knowledge of interesting , authentic types of food in a friendly manner. Would highly recommend his pub tour which we enjoyed later in the day - this is slightly more relaxed & almost guaranteed for you to make new friends

Midtown Winter Food Tour - Excellent! Fantastic places esp Amy’s Bakery, and great way to meet lovely people. Great way to find out the best local places to get great quality food.

Second time was just as good as the first one! - Did a tour with Cory August. This time I brought the whole family to New York for Christmas and New Years. Had to do a good on foot tour again because Cory is very knowledgeable about food in the city and took us to great A rated restaurants! Highly recommend you go early in your trip so you know where to get quality local food. He also gives great recommendations after the tour to other restaurants ;)

Average and overpriced - Our family was a group of 5 who paid for the tour. Unfortunately my husband could not attend as he was bedridden for 3 days. I believe the tour is overpriced given the information provided on the tour, the large size of the group and the food establishments visited. On the day we attended, we started at a pizza place. The variety was good and prices were around the $5-$6 slice, so it was on the upper end of the scale price wise. Certainly not what I’d class as a hidden gem but nice pizza never the less. Our second stop was a taco place - it was good and the price was average. If I was in the area I’d go back but wouldn’t make a special trip out of my way to do so. Third stop was a sandwich 🥪 place with great variety and reasonable prices. The last 2 stops were sweet places. I have a sweet tooth but sadly neither appealed to me however, that’s not to say that others may feel differently. The Greek bakery we went to had a lovely story attached and did offer a large variety of European pastries. The pie shop we ended the tour with was disappointing in its lack of variety and high prices. We spent the following at each place Pizza- $5 for 1 slice cut in 2 to share Tacos- $18- 2 shrimp tacos with Guacamole and 1 soda Sandwich place- $18 for 1 sandwich cut in 2 (shared) and 1 soda Greek bakery $5 each - 2 pastries (1 each) they were extremely rich and we couldn’t finish them Pie shop- $9 for 1 key lime pie shared between 2 ( this was not a large pie - I could have eaten it by myself if I hadn’t had the other dessert) So a total of $55 for food for 2 people (this included 2 sodas which were about $4.50 each) Corey’s communication prior to the tour was excellent- I received numerous emails detailing where to meet with very clear instructions. Corey’s manner was very straight forward and was found to be a little offensive to some people on the tour however I do understand that with such a large group (approx 30) he had to get his message across. I believe the size of the group was a bit too large and would have been better capped at about 20. As mentioned previously, the establishments we went to were probably everyday restaurants but not hidden gems or anywhere I’d make a special effort to return to. Corey provided a bit of background on the restaurants, and indeed he does not claim it to be a history lesson or gourmet tour. In regards to the price charged for this tour. The 4 of us who were able to attend used Go New York Explorer passes and this tour was one of the choices available. The passes were paid for and with the options our family chose, each of our activities had an average cost of $20 USD per person (so any comment by Corey that the tour was “free” is completely misleading). As my husband was ill, I had brought his pass with me thinking it could be scanned as payment however Corey advised me this was not an option as stated in the terms and conditions on his site. On going back and reading the fine print, this is correct ( a voucher cannot be scanned if the holder is not present)so Corey has certainly not provided any false information. Corey charged me $49 for my husband who could not attend and I find this to be completely outrageous. I do not object to paying for non attendance but $49 is excessive even if the tour had been attended. Corey simply stated that the ticket for the tour was like a theatre ticket in that if you couldn’t attend it was too bad. My family actually went straight from Corey’s tour to Circle de Soleil at Maddison Square Gardens where we paid $40 for our seats and I gave my husbands ticket away as he obviously couldn’t attend that show either. Let me say that Corey comparing his tour to a theatre show is hilarious. I wish I had of been able to give my husbands ticket for the food tour to someone else as not only would I not of been out of pocket an additional $49 but someone else could have taken part. In summary, our tour tickets using the explorer passes were about $20 each and excluding drinks we spent about $22 each on food. My husbands ticket was $49 for non attendance due to illness.

Room for Improvement - I attended this tour with my family on Sunday and was a little disappointed. Our tour guide Corey was clearly very passionate about what he did but it did feel as though we were on a school excursion with how the tour was conducted due to the large group we had. There were constant instructions to come closer or stand against the wall, not block the footpath etc and I can understand how some reviewers could find this condescending and it did take away from the experience of the tour at times. If Corey was to limit the size of our group to 12 or 15 people maximum, I think the tour would be a lot more enjoyable and there would be less stress to follow these instructions. Our group size was about 30 this day. Locals were disgruntled by the size of our group as well, due to us taking up the whole store while we were at each location and twice I heard complaints from potential customers who were not part of our group about not being able to order, or there not being enough space. Ordering from the stores was also quite stressful as there wasn’t enough space to really move or look at what you wanted. Most times I just ordered literally the first thing I could see or the recommended item. There were many options to choose from at each store and it would’ve been nice to see what else there was but most times there wasn’t the chance or space to do so. Corey did say that both him and the store owners could answer any questions but with how many people were waiting to order, it felt inappropriate to take up any extra time. I did also find the introduction at the start of the tour to be quite dragged out but again this could have been fixed with less people. Now that I’ve gotten the negative things out the way, I’ll talk about the positives. Corey was very informative throughout the tour and told us a lot about each area we visited as well as some interesting history about each of the places we went to eat at, and there was definitely a variety in the food that we had on the tour. At each stop, Corey asked each group what they thought of the food and had a bit of a chit chat. He is a very approachable guy and is happy to provide any helpful information about food recommendations in the area you’re staying or subway advice. The food always came out quickly and each store was happy to cut things up for us to share. We were also encouraged to get to know other people on the tour and we did get the chance to have a brief chat to some people sitting at the same table as us but the interaction was brief, as we were often crammed in a small area. It was definitely nice to try all the foods and learn about the history and background of each stop but it was stressful having to push ourselves up against the wall, cram into tiny stores and avoid bumping into locals constantly. Unless you are using your explorer pass, the tour is quite expensive for what is on offer and honestly speaking it would not be worth the full price, considering you are also paying for your own food. Corey you are obviously very passionate about what you do and it was lovely to have met you and gone on the tour but PLEASE please consider limiting the number of people who are to take a tour at one time because this is the sole problem. Reading other people’s negative reviews, this is honestly one of the biggest issues that people have and I believe you have the potential to have your tour be really enjoyable if you are able to take on board this constructive criticism. The one man show needs to make it fun. Every person on the tour (30 of us) felt he was bossy. - I understand he needs to control a group. But there's a way to speak to adults. When someone has to smile after every sentence.. you get the tone?. Bossy. No fun at all. Crap food choices. Pizza ( wow) taco ( wow) sandwich ( wow). Greek pastry ( wow). Dessert shop.. nice but at $9.00 for a small pie!! Extortionate!! $5 for a two inches wide SLICE of pie. NB the " wow" is sarcasm.. I would have liked a variety.. something .. like dim sum ( China) . Taco. Italian. New York. Beer & hot dog. Sweet. With so many other tours and lots of better feedback about them.. this tour is one to miss. The guy Corey is thorough. Just ask nicely for people not to use phones. Ask nicely to line up. Have some compassion for those who can't read your crappy paper sign. Have some patience for those who need the language translated Looking down your nose or shouting is not acceptable. I would NOT recommend this tour. He's a one man band. With no customer service skills He is helpful as he is a New Yorker. 20/25 mins of your tour will be at the meet up point introducing yourself to the other 29!! Charges of $50 for no shows will be made. Fair point I suppose. He hides no rules. Terms are clear. Taking 30 to a shop which seats 15.. seems wrong on all points. Not much history given to us at all about new York . Off beaten track promised.. yet we're on 9th Ave?? Eat.. 5 mins later.. eat.. 5 mins later.. eat. Etcetera etcetera..
