  • St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral - The original St. Patrick’s Church located in Little Italy. We’ll visit this stunning Basilica.
  • Economy Candy - Visit Manhattan’s oldest candy store. You might find candies from your childhood.
  • The Pickle Guys - During the peak of Jewish immigration (1880-1924), there were over 60 pickle stores. This is one of the few remaining.
  • Essex Street Market - Discover the history of such markets and see a modern marketplace today.

This is the final stop of the tour. The tour concludes near the subway station (F, M, J) on the South East Corner.

  • The Five Points - Once near the collect pond during the Dutch era, it later became known for Irish gangs like the Bowery Boys and the Bad Rabbits. Today, it’s a peaceful park in Chinatown.
  • Edward Mooney House - The oldest brick house in Manhattan, dating back to the late 18th century.
  • Lower East Side - Once one of the world’s most densely populated areas, with tenements built to accommodate the influx of immigrants.
  • Church of the Transfiguration - One of Chinatown’s oldest churches, offering services in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
  • Little Italy - Learn about the history of this iconic NYC neighborhood and enjoy some pizza.

Once one of the most densely populated districts in the world, Chinatown, Little Italy and the Lower East Side of Manhattan have witnessed numerous changes during the past hundred years. This walking tour is a resourceful glimpse into the past, with stops at some off-the beaten track locations. The tour will focus on a few of the remaining vestiges and surviving structures of this era of immigration and offer a taste of the delectable flavors of each neighborhood.

This tour will review the reasons each of these groups left their homelands and the impact they had on the history of New York City. We will start at Columbus Park in Chinatown which was the initial site of the famous “Five Points.”

After exploring Chinatown and eating tasty dumplings, we’ll move to Little Italy to see some sites and sample some traditional dishes. We’ll then move on to the Lower East Side to learn its history and sample authentic Jewish food.
