Great overview of New York - My friend and I bought the 48 Hour Pass separately and went on the tours together. My friend bought from their website directly and I bought from Viator - our ticket redemption experience was quite similar. The hop on hop off tours was a good way to see New York. Did the Downtown Tour and saw most of the must see sites. Night Tour was fun. The butterbeer at the Harry Potter store was a good addition to the experience. Overall we liked it!

Buyer BEWARE - Please, save your money and book someplace else! This tour caused nothing but grief from the first time I attempted to board a bus to the last! In NYC, I attempted to board the bus at stop #14 on 8th Ave only to be told that this particular stop wasn’t being used because it “was too busy”. I was then informed to walk to stop #2 near Margaritaville. I specifically chose TopView because they had two stops near my hotel and, being a single female, I felt better having stops to close by. Once I board the bus I noticed that there was no live information but all taped which would have been OK if it wasn’t 1-2 stops behind! The bus made it’s way through the stops without incident until just after stop #13 near the Port Authority on 42nd where, much surprise to all the riders, we were informed to leave the bus as this was the end of the tour! WHAT? Everything I read said that this was a loop - not a dead end tour! We were left to walk to the next stop to catch another bus, however, the next stop is #14 were I was told an hour or so earlier that this particular stop wasn’t being used because it was too busy. Fast forward to later in the day when I jumped on the Uptown tour from stop #15. The hawkers working the area had us board the bus, even with people up top saying there were no more seats. So doing as I was asked, I climbed the very narrow stairs to the top deck only to find NO SEATS! On the way down the very narrow stairs, the backs of both my legs scrapped the steps to the point where they were bleeding (word of advice, wear long pants and this shouldn’t be a problem). I got off the bus and walked to stop #23 where there sat an empty bus. YAY! Only problem, there was no recorded narration - just irritating music, until stop #16 (Dakota Building) where the narration started by saying “This is the Times Square stop….” For every stop thereafter! To add insult to injury, it says that one must reserve a seat for the night time tour - only to find that the people working the stop were letting anyone on. So, by the time it got to the group at the end who had reserved a seat, there were no seats left! I still have today to use the bus as a means of transportation…..but I’ll just say “thanks, but no thanks” and cut my losses!

What a scam - We initially wanted to take the free Ferry to Staten Island, as some friends advised you can see the statue of Liberty quite well from that one. While I am not so sure about that (we did see the Staten Island ferry and it looked pretty crowded and further from the statue then our boat), we had a very bad experience with this other option. As soon as we got out of the South Ferry station, some very "nice guys" offered to guide and help us. They were very kind to explain that the Staten island ferry is passing very far and even on the map it looked like that as well as taking very long to come back. So they were promoting a shorter trip passing very close to the statue + shoreline, which sounded very interesting, we asked where is this ship, they said we'll get you there, it is here around the corner sort of thing, leaving in 10 minutes, not crowded...etc. So we bought the tickets, dude had some issues with the banking machine's printer, so he had to "refund" the first payment and run it again - except the refund never got to my account - until I called their Customer Service 2 days later, and that Customer Service is the only reason I am giving 2 * instead of 1, as I did get my money back, no problem. We were then passed to a 3rd person, who was to walk us to the boat, except he suddenly started talking about getting to the bus that will take you to the boat. Completely out of the blue. After a 8-10 minute walk we arrived at a bus station, and dude said wait here bus will come, go 3 stops, and will you give me a tip...right. At that point was already clear that tip is definitely not going to happen. After waiting 30 minutes in the scorching heat, finally bus shows up (no air conditioning), and gets us to another pier, around 10:40 ish. Then we noticed that on the ticket it was written boat leaves at 11:00, except that once there, some dude explained that next departure is at 12:00 in fact. Quite a few of us were already not happy, called the company, asked for money back, they said write an e-mail and wait a few days..yeah, right. Very reluctantly we decided in the end to wait it out. The boat did indeed pass very close by the Statue, nice pictures. Btw, only platinum or how was it called passengers can sit on the sun deck, rest are inside on top or lower deck. Very basic seating, plastic chairs, there was a "tour guide" upstairs that tried to make some atmosphere by going around and asking everybody where are they coming from. Very bad experience overall !

Bad sound, no tour! - First day, okay. We did halfway. Second day. Bad sound, tour narration not working, changed buses. Broken connections on many seats. Got on city bus, better trip back with a/c cleaner too. Contacted customer service, they offered extra time, but we already wasted too much. Don’t recommend this company.

Topview is a SCAM - Do NOT book Topview NYC Hop-On Hop-off bus tour. If you have a horrible experience like we did, Topview does not give you a refund and your credit card won't let you dispute it if you got on the bus and they offered a free pass (after we got home). We purchased 2, 48-hour "Discovery" passes. They say the buses will come every 15-20 minutes. Day 1: Topview did not show up after waiting 40 minutes, while the Big Bus drove by several times. We had to pay for a cab to make sure we didn't miss our 12:15pm Empire State bldg tour. Then, we got on a bus (stop 5, Empire State Bldg) to go to our 5:15 Statue of Liberty Cruise (stop 11) and the bus started breaking down and would sit at each of the stops for about 10-15 minutes. This ride took so long that we missed our 5:15 Statue of Liberty Cruise. Then, the bus broke down completely. We stood out on the sidewalk for about 45 minutes waiting for another bus to show up (they definitely don't come every 15-20 minutes) and as soon as the other bus arrived our driver got our bus to work and we got back on. Big mistake, as it broke down again and we had to take a cab back to our hotel. We were so exhausted from the "transportation" issues with these buses, we didn't have the energy or desire to try to do the night city lights tour. Day 2: Same thing, but instead of standing at the stop we walked 10 blocks, stopping at each stop on the way with no Topview bus showing up. We finally saw a Topview bus at a stop but it was broken down. We had to take a cab to our Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island tour so we wouldn't miss it. Broken down buses and buses not showing up only works if you plan on just riding the bus all day. It definitely doesn't work if you want to get off and do something. This is not at all what we expected and not what we were promised. Avoid this company if you think this is a Hop On, Hop off bus service. Also, the buses aren't air-conditioned. When the bus broke down, it was cooler to get off the bus and stand under a tree then to sit on top in the bright sun, or sit in the bottom which just had a tiny corner fan in the back. I also recommend checking Topview on Yelp. You will find 1000 similar experiences to mine. I checked this website after we returned and got the full picture. Check into Big Bus as they were everywhere.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS TOUR BUS - We paid over $300.00 for two people. We were never given a map or head phones. Workers just stand there and don’t offer anything. This tour line is new to us, we didn’t know how to get from the down town to up town bus, and when we asked it was like why are you bothering me. The Bronx line only goes at 9:30 AM once a day, crazy. Many of the stops drop you off 10 long blocks from the attraction like the Edge. But the driver for bus 340 was new, she drove in the car lane even when the Bus only lane was wide open. Even when she was next at the signal to turn, she sat there for FOUR lights, green, red green red. But when it started raining and she would not drive, the people on top us the bus sat in the pouring-rain, I mean it was coming down for 22 minutes, a lot of the people just got off the bus to seek shelter. All the while eight buses passed, three from this same pathetic tour line. And when several of us complained, they made us wait another 25 minutes, then the so called supervisor said oh, just call the office. She refused to identify her self.

Avoid - This review page conflates a number of different experiences. To be clear, my review relates to the daytime, hop on, hop off tour. There are no live guides. It was generally just an unpleasant experience. Members of staff - drivers and sales people, were rude and were clearly not invested at all in you having a good time. You would be sitting on a bus, at a stop, 20-30 mins, stop after stop whilst nothing happened. It took just under two hours to do four close stops at one point. It got to the stage during stops whereby people (not me) were shouting from the top of the bus at the potential customers to try and make them understand the problems. The sales people simply did not care, at quieter stops they only appeared when a bus was due and at busier stops, staff would be laughing amongst themselves as customers pleaded from the top for the bus to leave, even though there was no queue. I ended up taking the Metro in order to get back to my hotel rather than be packed onto another bus and regret the choices that I had made. Stops aren't always clear, descriptions of stops aren't great. Staff wont help you change over between downtown and uptown lines. Indeed, if anyone does find that uptown cross over stop, then let the staff know too! The buses aren't in great condition. The river tour - you need to leave extra time because the boat leaves from the very back of Pier 40. The first time I tried it, I cancelled my ticket because the boat was packed. A significant proportion of the deck area is reserved for those with premium tickets. I then rebooked for the next day in the hope that taking the very first ticket of the day would mean that it was quieter. It was quieter than the previous day, but onboard you need to be prepared to stand for the entire journey if you wish to be outside, with the seating being in a covered area. I have been on plenty of tours in many cities, across the globe. This tour is poor comparison. Use google maps and use the Metro system. You will soon get the hang of it.

Terrible Choice For Hop On Hop Off in NYC - They have loads of people on the street selling their tours. We had planned to take a hop on hop off tour so we went with them. What a mistake. No buses for almost an hour near the Empire State Building. When one finally shows up, it’s full. Another shows up 5 minutes later, it’s also full. We ended up walking back to Times Square and were able to get on one of their buses later that day. Start of the route so we sat waiting for about 15 minutes. They said this bus is not going anywhere, no driver. Everyone off, there’s another bus coming. Before we could get off, they had us sit down again. They found a driver. We didn’t quite make it a full run when the driver shut off the bus and said it wasn’t going any further. This company is a complete joke. The buses are full of garbage on the floor. The sound doesn’t work right. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from TopView.

Not delivering on promises… - Uptown Tour didn’t even get close to advertised highlights, only took 75mins instead of approx. 2 hours. Unwilling to provide refund.
