Additional Information

The Metropolitan Museum of Art houses one of the greatest art collections in the world. With over two million works of art and artifacts, ranging from ancient Greece and Egypt to Modern art from Europe, it is New York’s must-see museum.

Maximize your time with a small group guided tour or a private tour of popular galleries with an expert guide. Alternatively, explore on your own after a 30-minute orientation session.

Walk through 5000 years of art history, seeing the Egyptian temple of Dendur, masterpieces of the Robert Lehman collection, the original facade of a Wall Street bank, and more! Art movements like impressionism, cubism, and abstract expressionism unfold before your eyes.

If there’s a specific area you’re excited to visit, ask your guide. You can stay and explore the exhibits until closing.

With your entry ticket, you can also visit The Cloisters uptown on the same day. The Met has extended hours on Friday and Saturday evenings for a quieter, exclusive experience.

  • Small Group Guided Tours & Private Tours have a maximum of 15 people per tour guide
  • Galleries and artwork visited on the tour are subject to change dependent on gallery closures and artwork loans
  • Both Museum locations are closed on Wednesdays
  • The Main Museum on 5th Ave. Is normally open: 10AM – 5PM Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 10AM – 9PM Friday and Saturday
  • The Met Cloisters in uptown are normally open 10AM – 5PM
  • The pre-orientation experience option is shown as 2 hours long. It includes the 30-minute pre-orientation experience and then self-guided time in the Museum. You can off course spend longer than 90 minutes in the Museum if you want, but this is the minimum amount of time you should allow.

Amazing experience! - Excellent experience at MET! The guide Alex contacted in advance an hour before entering the Museum via WhatsApp with the tickets already available! Friendly guide who showed the main attractions of the MET because the museum is very big! It was very worth it and I recommend!

A wonderful afternoon at the Met! - Our guide, Alex, was so helpful in helping us learn how to visit a museum like the Met and not get overwhelmed. His enthusiasm for art came through so clearly along with his knowledge. We will make future visits to the Met!

Informative tour by expert guide - Small group guided Metropolitan Museum of Art Skip-the-Line Guided Tour - Semi-Private tour with Babylon Tours. Fantastic. Our guide Kathryn was incredibly well informed and so willingly informative. Kathryn provided easy to understand information. We saw so much in 2.5 hrs and learnt so much. We had a small group of 6. The MET is SO big a guide is recommended especially if time is limited.

Wandering around overwhelmed - It was interesting, we did a self tour. We were supposed to meet our guide at the 81st and fifth Avenue entrance. We went there and got sucked into the line going into the building. Which was fine but once inside we had no clue what to do and we went to the tour guide meeting area and they had no clue, the nice guy took his upstairs to the upstairs tour meeting area and told us to wait by the pharaoh. He said in case your tour guide checks in up here. He assured us if you checked in downstairs, he would send him up. The meet up time is noon, we were there about seventeen minutes to noon. And waited until almost 20 after. Thankfully the nice gal that worked at the met helped us to get tickets even though she had no record of the tour. So we missed our orientation but the nice young lady from The Met saved the day. Huge place, probably need 2 + visits to take it all in.

Sub Par and expensive - Sam our guide was friendly but did not speak loud enough and didn’t really provide any profound insights into much of the exhibits to add much value. I would have rather went ahead with a self guided tour as the museum entry is free and saved myself the cost of the tour guide and out that money towards dinner.

Rip off - Not guided. Only times. Twice price of standard ticket. No lines to skip. Nothing special. Misleading. Would not recommend. Can walk up and purchase ticket yourselves for fraction of cost.
