Pleasant & organized tour - As our tender turned up an hour earlier than our tour we were delighted that we didn’t have to wait very long. They knew the tender process well and filled up the buses as people got to shore. Therefore there was no wasted time waiting around! It was a pleasant informative tour and well run.

Amazing nature - Rob did a superb job giving us details of the area without overwhelming. I especially appreciated his guidance for the forest walk as he gave us opportunity to find quite moments to appreciate the 1500 yr old trees. He kept us all going along together which can be a challenge with 34 people.

Glow worms and so much more - It covered so many different areas. Our guide was Dyson who made the trip incredibly special. The cruise ship didn’t offer this excursion. It was our first time with Viator but it won’t be our last.

Great Tour - The glow worms were amazing. Disembarkation from the ship was delayed and we were slightly late getting to the meeting point, as were a large number of other guests who were on tenders behind us. The tour company were in contact with the ship and they waited for all quests to arrive before starting the tour. The driver was very knowledgeable with local information. He kept everyone to timeframes to ensure we didn't miss any of the areas on the tour.

Glow Worm Tour - We booked this tour primarily to see the Glow Worms. They did not disappoint. Our tour guide was an indigenous native and threw some of their culture into the tour. We saw several sites besides the glow worm, including a visit to a chocolate factory and a bakery that served the Australian meat pies, among other delectables.

Site-seeing, glow-worms, meat pies & chocolate - This is a pleasant excursion to do while in port from a cruise stop. The meeting point is right at the disembarking area from the ship and the staff are readily present to meet you. Our guide, Greg, was very knowledgeable and friendly. You will have a comfortable ride in an air-conditioned bus. The first portion is a 35-40 minute drive to the glow worm caves. It is a pleasant ride peppered by your guide’s commentary. I enjoyed the drive to see the beautiful areas of New Zealand in all their summer splendor. Very pretty. The glow worm cave area is fairly unremarkable. You literally will get off and wait to enter with a guide in a line into the cave area. It will be dark in order to see the worms but there are lanterns provided to assist since there are steps and the walkway is a bit rickety. The history of the glow worm cave area is interesting to hear about from the staff, many of whom are related to the original founders of the caves. However the caves may be a bit underwhelming overall — basically, they are kind of neat to see and then you’re done. Following that it is back on the bus and more site seeing as you traverse the area to head to a chocolate store which is quite nice and their signature candy treat — Macadamia Butter Toffee Crunch — is worth indulging in. Prior to that was a brief stop at a famous Toilet spot that’s fun to see. Next we travelled onto lunch for meat pies at The Bakehouse. Very good and they have a wide assortment of tasty treats as well. Onto a Forrest area walk that is rather impressive and takes just 5 minutes to walk about to enjoy. More driving then to see a rather quaint little waterfall area followed by one last scenic stop for a photo op of the harbor with your cruise ship in the background which was quite beautiful and picturesque as well. Our guide was mindful of the time to get back to ship which was obviously important too. Overall, a nice day sightseeing opportunity coupled with a bit of New Zealand culture worth indulging in. Best geared toward adults; kids were a bit bored.

Good tour but not a great tour - We thoroughly enjoyed our guide Charley. He kept us amused. The glow worms were a real highlight of our cruise to New Zealand, we also had NZ pies at a fantastic pie shop - another highlight but truthfully there was not enough substance on the rest of the tour. Maybe you could add a trip to the Treaty grounds as a good substitute for the water falls.
