From 1388, it was under the dominion of Savoy, later becoming part of the French First Republic from 1792 to 1815, after which it was returned to the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, the legal predecessor of the Kingdom of Italy, until it was re-annexed by France in 1860.
