Historical day trip from Muscat - Excellent historical day trip from Muscat covering three castles / forts and a souq. On top of the places we visited it is nice to get a trip up into the mountains and see towns other than Muscat. Saif was my driver / guide for the day and I highly recommend him. He was very helpful at all stages of the tour, very informative both on the places we visited and Oman in general. All three forts were worth visiting. Nizwa had the additional souq while not as large as Muscat souq it was interesting and with the help of Saif I managed to get all I needed at good prices. Lunch was not included in the prices but I was interested in local food and so we stopped at a Yemeni restaurant. Overall a great day out.

Day 3: Nizwa Fort -> Jebel Shams - Day 3: wonderful day spent at Nizwa Souq and Nizwa Fort learning about the rich history of this land. Our guide Aziz talked us through the exhibits as we explored the different rooms within the Fort itself. Nizwa is a place not to be missed when visiting Oman. Finally we arrived at Jebel Shams to see the "grand canyon" of Oman at around 2,000m a.s.l. Aziz was very thoughtful in stopping by a supermarket before we were headed for the mountains, allowing us to buy some snacks and supplies for the Balcony Walk that we will be doing the next day. The weather at Jebal Shams is fantastic, a nice relief from the hot weather back in the city and at the desert.

A highlight of my travels in Oman! - This was an absolutely fabulous full day tour with a nice mix of sights. We started with the Nizwa Fort and Castle. This is truly impressive. Our guide, Said Al Kiyumi, took us around this to explain the history and cultural aspects. The fort and castle here is perhaps the most impressive in Oman. We also explored the Souq in Nixwa, and Said helped us to sample a nice variety of dates. Then it was on to Jebel Shams which is also known as the Grand Canyon. The ride affords beautiful views and then at the top there is a magnificent vista. Finally, after a late lunch stop, we drove on to a super charming old mountain town, Al Musfah, and this was a particularly special treat. Said showed us around this place and it truly is special. My only regret is we didn’t have time for a coffee or drink at the cafe up on top to watch the sunset. But we needed to drive back to Muscat and it is 2 1/2 hours from Musfah. Said was a delight to explain to us all about not just the sights but about Omani culture and life. I highly recommend this tour and our guide Said!

A fantastic all-day experience and guide! - The tour was fantastic! We were picked up at the hotel at 8:30 am by our wonderful guide, Said Al Kiyumi, then drove to Niswa to see the souk and impressive fort. We went on to see the canyon of Jebel Shams, followed by a lunch and old Al Musfah. Said explained everything and was never stingy with providing information, which I loved. He was very patient with us wanting to see everything. All around a great experience and a fantastic guide. Thank you very much!

A very interesting tour! - We very much enjoyed our tour to Nizwa and vicinity. It was very interesting to see Oman beyond Muscat, the main city. Said was a very knowledgeable and helpful guide. The road to Jebel Shams is quite rough and back issues prevented us from completing that part of the journey. However, the trip was well worth it and we recommend it if you are in Oman and have the time.

Amazing Tour with Our Guide Musab - We had a fantastic day on this tour and highly recommend it! Our guide, Musab, was knowledgeable, friendly, and ensured a smooth experience. The tour covered the historic Nizwa Fort with stunning views, the bustling Nizwa Souq, and the ancient village of Al Hamra. Misfat Al Abriyeen impressed us with its charming alleys and lush gardens, while Jebel Shams offered breathtaking views of the “Grand Canyon of Oman.” Musab’s expertise and flexibility made the trip unforgettable. A must-do for anyone wanting to explore Oman’s beauty and history!

An enchanting trip through the past in Nizwa and the stunning Jebel Shams - An enchanting trip through the past in Nizwa will bring you many centuries behind: the souq, the Fort and Castle are filled with genuine atmosphere and spices and incense scents. Unmissable the stunning Jebel Shams, a lunar landscape made of rocks and mountains where you will lose the sense of gravity and hear nothing but the wind whispering around you. If you are afraid of heights, you will feel thrilled by one of the most challenging sights in your life. Hamood was a perfect driver, trip companion and…heights climber/jumper!
