Additional Information

Unlike its buddies Mt Cuthbert and Mt Vincent, Mt Cooke features around 3km of trail along the main ridge of the summit and spectacular views in all directions. Within the first 5 minutes of this hike, you’ll find yourself ascending up the South side of the monadnock along a rugged narrow rocky trail and will be immediately impressed by large sloping granite outcrops and giant boulders.
You’ll take the incline nice and easy but as we reach the top you’ll stop to explore Mt Cooke Cave! This hiking experience can be quite steep in parts but is very rewarding and a whole lot of fun! You can expect stunning views in all directions, rugged landscapes, and serenity as you immerse yourself in this very special trail.

As we meander along the summit of Mt Cooke, we will stop to admire the views from 582m above sea level and enjoy a delicious morning tea.

Mt Cooke Magic ! - A beautiful chilly start to the day at 3.5c but we soon warmed up ascending the first stage of the hike. From there on it was an undulating track crossing small streams and Rocky outcrops. A perfectly clear blue sky made for good visibility of the surrounding landscape. My friends and I are Septugenarians and we are used to hiking, so I’d rate this as an intermediate hike for most. The wildflowers were beginning to emerge early this season and our guide Paul’s knowledge of wildflowers, fungi and cultural heritage made it a very interesting morning. The trusty support guides (sherpas) Neville and Joel carried our morning tea and we enjoyed Chai and a wonderful assortment of refreshments. Hiking with Off the Beaten Track affords you great hikes and the peace of mind for your safety and security. Thoroughly recommended.
