Very enjoyable trip on “Golden Gate” from Seahouses out to Farne Islands and Longstone Lighthouse. - We joined George and his crewman for a trip out to the Longstone Lighthouse aboard “Golden Gate” from Seahouses. We had a great wee afternoon cruise watching the wildlife and listening to the story of Grace Darling. The lighthouse visit gave you a real insight as to how the keepers and their familys lived. We also managed to take some good photos too.

Great trip - Had a great trip out to Longstone lighthouse. The route took us round a few of the islands and we saw large numbers of birds and quite a few seals round the lighthouse island itself. The tour of the lighthouse (which is reasonably priced) and island which is given at around 30 minutes is more than adequate to tour the lighthouse and island. we also had a great guide on board who gave us the history of the grace darling story and various info on the species of birds in the area also there is some quite dramatic shots of the mainland to be had with Bamburgh castle and the holy islands visible.

A swell trip - lighthouse, dolerite, seals, birds and sea spray - Not quite the edge of the universe but certainly far enough into the North Sea to sense its vastness safe in the knowledge that land is close by.
The seals came to check us out as we landed next to Longstone Lighthouse. After a quick climb up the ever narrower spiral stairs to see the view that Grace Darling had from her bedroom window, it was a chance to walk on part of the Whin Sill complex - the dark greenish grey igneous rock that forms the Farne Islands.
The Golden Gate is a stylish small boat that you sensed had a back story before she was devoted to ferrying visitors from shore to isle and back. Character in motion - especially as the cross current rocked her - and us - from side to side. Her friendly crew helped us em- and disem-bark, informed us and entertained us.
Thank you Golden Gate!

Definitely Recommend - If you want to take a boat tour from Seahouses I would absolutely recommend this one..
There are various companies all essentially doing the same routes and charging similar prices, so it either comes down to service or if you want to land on Longstone then you have to go with this one.
We wanted to land and see the Longstone light house, but the weather wasn't good enough and the trip we booked was cancelled. Communication was great, they were honest and up front when we booked that the weather looked dodgy, and they suggested the best day of the week for us to get on Longstone if we wanted to. We couldn't go that day, so stuck with our booking and the trip ended up being cancelled. We did a 2 hour non landing cruise instead, but they were absolutely clear that we could have had a refund if we wanted to. We were refunded the difference in cost between the trip we booked the trip we did before we even got on the boat.
The boat itself was clean, well looked after and felt safe. It is almost entirely open and has no toilet, so go before you board and expect to get wet in rough seas or if it rains. There were strong winds and sea the was quite rough for our trip, but the skipper seemed calm and competent. He had a little chat to us before we set off, very friendly.
We had our 3 year old daughter with us. The crew took her hand and helped her step on and off the boat just like the adults. Such a small thing, but we've done a lot of other boat trips and usually have to lift her on and off while the crew just watch.
Summary - a great experience even though we didn't get to land on Longstone and my daughter was see sick. Neither of these things are the fault of the company. Felt like a traditional family business, offering excellent service and who still care about their customers. The boat is very traditional, the customer service is very traditional (i.e. good) and the whole experience just felt nicer than when we took a trip with one of the larger operators last year.

Great value trip, lots to see - This was a great trip out to Longstone Rock to go in the lighthouse with its link to the Grace Darling story. We also saw the bird and seal colonies, commentary was interesting, all in all a great value well organised trip.

A fab experience - We loved this trip to the Farne Islands. The guide was helpful and knowledgeable. We saw a variety of birds (including Puffins) and a few seals. The visit to Longstone Lighthouse was the perfect stop off and we enjoyed learning more about Grace Darling and the surrounding area.
Would definitely do this trip again but perhaps not so late in the Puffin season as I'd have loved to have seen more.
