Highlights
  • Nosy Komba - Nosy Komba is a volcanic island covered with dense jungle, 20 minutes boat ride from Nosy Be.
We land on the south-west side of the island, in Anjiabe village.
Face the jungle and start our 6 hours tour.
And the real fun starts here!
Within the first half hour you’ll meet lots of special plants. Mangoes, cocoa, soursop, bread and jackfruit trees, pepper bushes, bananas, cola nuts, pineapples, wild chillies and lots of vanilla. And best of all, we will taste all of them!
Our destination is reaching the summit of Komba at 622 meters. In the dense sultry jungle it is not an average forest walk. But it’s well worth it, because along we come across tiny jungle villages, where we meet the natives and see how they still live together with nature. You can only see this in Attenborough films!
Reaching the top the clearing has a fantastic view of the surrounding archipelago. Here we rest, enjoy refreshments, fruits and raw sugar cane to re-energise for the 2 hour descent on the other side.
What's Included
  • Carbonated beverages
  • Lunch
  • Snacks
  • Local SIM card and telephone with internet for the entire journey
Additional Information

Embarking on this 6-hour expedition through the dense jungle is truly a captivating experience. You’d feel like you’ve walked right into a David Attenburough documentary. Expect amusing encounters with lemurs and chameleons, an encounter with unique vegetation including Jackfruit, cocoa, lychee, pepper and coffee bushes, vanilla and many more.
Don’t think of it as a casual walk in a park, so it’s only advisable for adventure-ready individuals.
The climax of the journey involves reaching the island’s summit, after which we meet increasingly greater numbers of lemurs. These animals are incredibly friendly during the winter, even hopping onto us delicately and gladly taking bananas from our hands, using our heads and shoulders as their dining tables. It’s an authentic jungle escapade!
The journey is also inclusive of quaint jungle settlements with amicable locals, and diverse wildlife and plants you’ve probably only ever seen on TV.
Throughout the tour, you’ll have opportunities to sample exotic produce such as fresh cocoa fruit (the pulp of cocoa), the sweetness of raw sugar cane, jackfruit or soursop, eight varieties of seasonal mango and other unusual fruits that don’t even have English or French names!

Give it a shot, you won’t regret nor forget the experience!

Highly recommend! - We had a great time on the jungle trek, and the flexibility and accommodation made for our group was perfect. The hike was very steep, and it had just rained, and we had some of our crew with injuries, so our guide completely rerouted the tour to something that we could do. We needed up not making it to the top of Nosy Komba, but we didn’t care - we hiked in the morning through a wildlife park (getting to feed and play with the lemurs, which was a highlight!), had a fantastic lunch at a restaurant in the fishing village on Nosy Komba (and for you vegetarians, they have great veggies, pasta, and fries in addition to their specialty of seafood), and then snorkeled and swam off a tiny island in the afternoon. Turned out to be great day. We’re active people, but the full hike is pretty tough with the inclines and declines, but if you’re worried about making it, know there are options if it gets too hard. The guides from Fossa travel were great folks, fun and helpful and enjoyed being with them for the day. Everything was included - food, drinks, transportation - and made it easy to just go and do what

Jungle boogie - We chose the jungle trek on the island of Nosy Komba with Ahmed, an experienced guide from Fossa travel. He showed us the local tribes living in small villages. On this fascinating and unspoilt island there are no car roads, we covered every metre on foot, a real and unforgettable achievement tour. Ahmed introduced us to the fauna and flora of the island, we hand fed the lemurs, met chameleons, snakes, zebu, and then had a fantastic well deserved Malagasy lunch. Thank you Fossa travel for this special experience of a lifetime. Linda
