Our journey takes us into the Carosello Nature Reserve, traversing a rocky trail traditionally used by donkeys within the old quarry. Here, we stumble upon Byzantine-era tanneries carved into prehistoric caves. After a devastating earthquake in 1693, Noto, now referred to as ‘the miniature Medieval Pompeii’, was reduced to ruins and has since become a significant archaeological site known for its rich history, believed to have been established around 448 BC. by Ducezio, the Sicilian monarch.
