• Royal Tombs - The Royal Tombs, where the royal family is buried, is a sacred site that can only be viewed from outside the fence.
• Langafonua Handicraft Centre and Gallery - The next stop is Langafonua, showcasing and selling the finest traditional Tongan handicrafts and woven fine arts.
• Talamahu Markets - Talamahu Markets is Tonga’s main hub for fresh produce, bustling with activity on Saturday mornings.
• 3 Headed Coconut - This unique 3 Headed Coconut can only be found in Tonga.
• Mapu’a ‘a Vaea Blowholes - The majestic blowholes along the rugged coast at the village of Houma offer a continuous display of the sea’s power. Four miles of coastal blowholes force the might of the Pacific Ocean through natural rock fissures, creating water spouts up to 30 meters high.
• Tsunami Rock - This 10-meter high boulder, located 200 meters from the coast, was brought here by a massive tsunami estimated to be up to 35 meters high. Its size and shape make it a fascinating site to visit.
• Kolovai - The flying fox sanctuary in the village of Kolovai is home to hundreds of fruit bats, considered sacred and a delicacy for the Royal Family. These bats hang from rows of ironwood pines along the main village road.
• Abel Tasman Landing Site - Located at the northern tip of Tongatapu island, this site features an information sign and a plaque commemorating the Dutch explorer’s first encounter with the island on January 21, 1643.
• Captain Cook’s Landing Place - In 1777, Captain Cook visited and came ashore to meet Pau, the Tui Tonga (the Sacred King of Tonga), during the ‘Inasi’ (presentation of the first fruits).
• Ancient Royal Tombs of Lapaha - These large, rectangular earthen burial mounds of the Tui Tonga Dynasty have terraced sides faced with cut limestone slabs. Traditionally, they were the burial places of the Tongan ruling class.
• Ha’amonga’a Maui Trilithon - This Stonehenge-like structure, located in the village of Niutoua, was built in the 13th century by the Tui Tonga (Sacred King of Tonga) Tuitatui in honor of his two children.
• Niutoua - Maka Fa’akinanga: Located approximately 100 meters from the Ha’amonga ‘a Maui, this large stone slab stands upright with markings resembling a head, shoulders, and back. Oral stories suggest that Tu’i Tu’itatui (the eleventh Tu’i Tonga) often sat against it and struck out with a staff to keep people at a safe distance.
• Makatolo a Maui - These are Maui’s gigantic throwing boulders, located near Anahulu Cave in Haveluliku Village. Legend says Maui threw these boulders at giant chickens to keep them quiet.
• Anahulu Cave - The Underground Swimming Pool - An accredited guide will accompany you into the cave, where you can see million-year-old rock formations and enjoy a refreshing swim in the freshwater pool at the end.
• Anahulu Beach - This beautiful, secluded beach is perfect for a quiet getaway. Bring your snorkeling gear to enjoy this private-like beach, located just 40 meters from the famous Anahulu Cave.
