We will drive to the starting point of the Horton Plan National Park. Situated 32 kilometers from Nuwaraeliya via the Pattipola road in Ambewela, Horton Plains National Park is nestled atop Sri Lanka’s highest plateau. We will make our way to the park’s entrance, where we will begin our trek across the stunning landscape, blanketed with Montane evergreen forests, cloud forests, grasslands, marshes, and diverse aquatic ecosystems. Horton Plains serves as a vital water catchment area, functioning like an immense sponge that absorbs rainfall. Throughout our hike, we will have the opportunity to spot a plethora of unique and endemic plant and animal life. The dramatic ‘Maha Lokanthaya’ (Great World’s End) escarpment and the dazzling Baker’s Falls are among the park’s breathtaking highlights. The sight of Nelu flowers, which bloom once every 12 years in a kaleidoscope of colors, is a sight to behold and a memory to cherish. After completing the 9-kilometer trek, we will return to Nuwaraeliya.

Recognised as a key catchment area, Horton Plains acts as a colossal reservoir that stores rainwater. Along this adventure, you’ll encounter an array of rare and endemic plant and animal species. The ‘Maha Lokanthaya’ escarpment (Big Worlds End) and the shimmering Baker’s falls amplify the allure of these plains.
