Wasgamuwa National Park is a wildlife sanctuary under the Mahaweli River Development Project. It receives 1650 - 2100 millimeters of rainfall and has an average annual temperature of 28°C. The region fall under the dry zone, and the wilderness in the park’s limits are one of the few places with sufficient water during the dry season. This is due to irrigation tanks built by ancient kings of centuries past. The wildlife flock to make their homes in the park’s land due to this reason.

Safari with Shameera - Great afternoon in the national park, led by Shameera (+94 76 481 0350 and WhatsApp). Many animals almost up close: elephants, crocodiles, buffaloes, parrots, mongooses and many more. Well explained and with many animals Shameera also knew the German name.
And in addition, fast, effective repair of the jeep tire, in which a thick nail was stuck, by a rubber/wire plug. Impressive!
Highly recommended the tour in the national park and Shameera as a guide.

Wonderful family day out with our guide Lahiru - We had such a wonderful morning at Udawalawe National Park with Lahiru . We were very lucky and saw a great number of elephant groups in the first couple of hours of our visit. Lahiru was very knowledgeable about the area, and knew how to find the quieter viewing spots and routes to see the families of elephants. Especially helpful with my young family.
We did not feel crowded or rushed, and had amazing close opportunities with the elephants.
Lahiru was also very knowledgeable about the birds and other creatures in the park.
All details had been arranged well in advance, with pick up and drop off scheduled well.

Amazing safari with amazing guide - Amazing safari Lahiru Prasad.
Lahiru took us to the most beautiful place s at the park. We saw elephants, deers (Bambi), many amazing birds, monitor lizard , crocodiles, monkeys,golden jackals
Lahiru is a professional wildlife expert and the best thing about the safari were the pictures that Lahiru took for us through his binoculars

Great Udawalawe morning safari - We had a great safari with lahiru as our guide. We received a small sweet local snack at the start at 6 am. Our guide lahiru spotted a lot of animals we weren’t able to spot, from small insects, birds, crocodiles and elephants. In the 4h safari we did a big tour on our own. Staying away from others drivers to enjoy the peace from nature.
10/10 would recommend!

Spotting animals in different settings quiet and peacefull.c. - Lahiri Prasad and his driver gave us a great experience through the parc. They take it slowly and communicate well so we cld observe the max, Beside elephants we saw many birds, crocs, buffelos, lizards and much more elephants. For the guide that does not follow the crowd but takes another path and turn of his engine so you can enjoy peacfully; +94 71 483 6490

Lahiru an amazing Guide! - Lahiru an excellent Guide!!! He stops by to show you all the animals that are camouflaged, otherwise they will overlook you. Very attentive and knowledgeable about the area and animals. The best safari I have ever done thanks to an amazing Guide! I would repeat! I highly recommend it!

Safari with lahiru guide - Highly recommended Lahiru for Udawalawe safari, & we would go again but for the whole day next time - it was amazing! Lahiru’s respect & knowledge of the park & animals was so helpful! He saw a baby elephant in some bushes hiding but we couldn’t spot him, so Lahiru knew to drive round the opposite side a few minutes later where the baby elephant and mother came walking straight over & no other jeeps were there to see it!
As a bonus I mentioned never seeing a chameleon, but wanting to. Whilst driving Lahiru spotted one in camouflage on a tree, for us to see! We also booked with him last minute, & he organised pick up & drop off travel for us to our next destination! Made it so easy! We would definitely recommend Lahiru for Udawalawe safari, & we would go again but for the whole day next time - it was amazing! Lahiru’s respect & knowledge of the park & animals was so helpful! Wonderful Safari Trip - Very nice Trip with Shameera (+94 (76) 481 0350). We took the morning tour at 6am, entrance fee was 11000 rs per person.
Shameera speaks english and a bit german. Binoculars, water and Cookies were included for us.
We arrived first in a couple of spots and were alone with the wildlife because Shameera is one of the fastest drivers there.
Seen elephants, buffalos, crocodiles, jackals, monkeys and a lot of brids. We recommend this tour and would do it again.

Great nature, rich birdlife, elephants and few tourists - We (2 adults and children 5 and 7 years old) were picked up at 06:00 am by driver and guide Sajith for a 3 hour morning safari in Wasagamuwa.
He was seen as a steady driver. He showed us many birds and we got to see a lot of the natural areas both open landscape and dense forest, and we were taken to the river Mahaweli. Incredibly beautiful landscape!
We saw no animals until the end of our time, but then we met on a flock of elephants of 5-6 individuals, both baby elephants and mothers. We got very close, it was huge!
Our guide also found a python snake that we were able to see just before driving out of the park!
The morning felt cool in the open car, so a sweater may be advisable to take on the trip.
I would like a little more information about the national park, and a little more about the animals, the season we were in and what we could expect/not expect from our trip in advance.
There were very few other visitors in the park, we met on 3 other safaris during our three hours on safari, so here you can get the feeling of being alone in nature if you are traveling at the right time.
