  • Wasgamuwa National Park - Wasgamuwa National Park is a dry zone park which is home to over 150 floral species, many of them endemic. The park also houses 23 species of mammals and over 140 species of birds. The number of reptile species is not low either. The park is especially popular for its elephant herds that you may see especially in the evenings. The Marsh elephant is a subspecies only seen near the Mahaveli River. You may also get to see two of the endemic monkey species found in Sri Lanka, or water buffalo, or even the rare sloth bear or golden palm civet. Some of the bird species that you may see are the endemic red-faced malkoha and the Sri Lankan junglefowl. You could also catch an elusive look at colorful peafowl, a painted stork, a black-headed ibis or even a Sri Lankan frogmouth. There are many reptiles you may see on the banks of water bodies, such as the Mugger Crocodile or water monitors.

There is also a chance to glimpse the vibrant peafowl, the artistically decorated painted stork, the black-headed ibis, or the enigmatic Sri Lankan frogmouth. Wildlife enthusiasts might also encounter various reptiles skulking on the water banks, like the Mugger Crocodile or water monitors, along with a number of skinks, lizards, and snakes. Fascinatingly, Wasgamuwa Park is home to approximately 50 butterfly species that butterfly lovers might find intriguing. Among these, eight species are unique to the area.

Nice 3 hour safari - Our safari was excellent. We saw a lot of animals. Among them, elephants are special. Their natural behavior is great. They live by eating grass. Saw many other animals. There were many species of deer, foxes and birds. Our driver gave us a good explanation about the animals.

Best to see wild elephants - [20/09, 7:46 pm] 😊Poddi☺️: On a good day you can see a large herd of elephants of all sizes. It is an amazing site to see close to 60-70 wild elephants roaming around. Amazing jeep safari to Wasgamuwa - We had a amazing jeep safari in Wasgamuwa National Park. we saw Elephants, bears,dears and hundreds of birds including peacock and migrate birds. Nalaka was knowlageable driver. Highly Recommended ❤️❤ if you are wild elephants lover.

Good safari - Great safari and a great guide, saw elephants, a crocodile and plenty of peacocks, private jeep is a nice touch aswell
