Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a therapeutic technique that enhances the lymphatic system’s function, aiding in the efficient removal of toxins and excess fluids from the body, thereby reducing swelling.

In an MLD session, the therapist employs gentle manual touch to guide excess lymph and fluid from the tissues back into the lymphatic vessels. While it is sometimes categorized as a type of massage, MLD differs significantly from traditional massage methods that involve deep and vigorous rubbing. MLD is notably more gentle. Lymphatic drainage is very gentle, painless, and does not have a stimulating effect. Each session typically lasts between 45 to 60 minutes. Research indicates that the most significant reduction in lymphedema-related swelling occurs during the first week of treatment, with stabilization in the second week.

• You should not book a massage if you have a fever, cold/flu, or contagious skin infection. There are also other conditions in which your therapist may need to adapt his/her techniques (i.e. arthritis or osteoporosis, pregnancy) or avoid an area completely (i.e. cuts or burns).
• You should wear comfortable clothing.
• Please give us as much notice as possible if you know you are going to be late for your appointment. In most cases we will need to shorten your appointment accordingly to accommodate clients scheduled after you.
• Hawaii Natural Therapy is located at 350 Ward Avenue, Honolulu, between downtown Honolulu and the Ala Moana shopping center. We are on the second floor.
• Please arrive five to ten minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Traffic has gotten increasingly bad in Honolulu, so please allow extra time to navigate to us.
• Children 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• Open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM
