- Santuario de Aranzazu - Our next stop is the 1950s Sanctuary of Arantzazu, a stunning monument perched above rugged rocks, renowned as one of the most avant-garde religious structures globally! Esteemed Basque artists like Néstor Basterretxea, Eduardo Chillida, and Jorge Oteiza contributed to this remarkable project. The surroundings of the Sanctuary are simply breathtaking!
- Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park - Energized by the spiritual ambiance of the basilica, we’ll begin our ascent of Mount Aizkorri. These rocky peaks are not only the highest but also the most picturesque limestone formations in the Basque Country.
The trail initially leads through a treeless yet verdant landscape dotted with ‘latxa’ sheep and steeped in local legends. Gradually, the grazing pastures give way to rugged rocks, and above the mountains, you’ll spot birds of prey like peregrine falcons, griffon vultures, and booted eagles gliding in the sky.
At the mountain’s summit, we’ll take in panoramic views and enjoy a well-deserved rest! It’s the perfect time to savor a delicious lunch featuring top-quality local specialties such as Idiazabal cheese, cured sausages, ham, and tuna from a nearby port.
-
San Adrian ermita - Now it’s decision time! You can either descend on your own through the San Adrian tunnel or return the way we came, accompanied by the guide. We recommend the first option, which allows you to experience both sides of this impressive peak and explore a historically significant natural cave once known as the ‘hole to hell.’ The guide will provide all necessary information and a Walkie Talkie to ensure a safe hike.
-
Aldaola-Ubier aparkalekua - Congratulations! After a 17 km hike, you’ll return to the car, where your guide will reward you with a glass of local wine before we head back to San Sebastian.
