Great, adventure packed... - Great, adventure packed day! I was the only non-Spanish speaker on the trip (I know 🙄), and Xenon went out of his way to make sure I still got the most out of everything. Highly recommend!!

Hierves Agua tour - Our guide was very knowledgeable on all the spots we visited, it was very thought out itinerary. We had enough time to have a guide show up hierves agua and check out the water holes. The hike was intense but worth the view. I recommend this tour if you want to experience a good time in Oaxaca.

Great day trip from Oaxaca - We highly recommend this tour. It’s a way to pack in a lot of interesting sights in one day. Every stop was worth it.
We thoroughly enjoyed the guides narrative and felt enough time was spent at each stop. Delicious buffet lunch included. If you have limited time in Oaxaca and want to see some things in the region this is for you. Great day!!

Immersed in Zapotec Culture - This was a well-planned and managed full day tour. The explanations in English and the centering of Zapotec culture throughout was what set it apart. I felt like I left with a better understanding of these sites and their cultural importance, I learned a great deal especially at Teotitlán. The guide’s explanation of the textiles was better than we had at even the Museo Textil de Oaxaca.

Exceeded my expectations - This tour exceeded my expectations.
I knew there were lots of things to see but it didn’t feel rushed.
I would have spent less time at the buffet and a little bit more learning about the weaving process (pigment, etc).
Our guide Zenon was very knowledgeable and nice, kudos to him for conducting the tour in 2 languages and thanks to our driver Omero too, I don’t speak Spanish but I understand a bit and he was super funny.
I really enjoyed it, especially the visit at hierve el agua and the mezcal tasting.

Intriguing, fascinating and gorgeous views - This is a long, full day trip. And our guide made it pleasurable and easy for us. We received great guidance and explanations at all the stops and enough time to walk around and explore on our own. We didn't feel too rushed to move on to the next stop.
The petrified waterfalls and the views around are so worth it.
Visiting the ancient ruins of Mitla and hearing about their history was fascinating.
Learning about old traditions of dying wool and weaving tapestry was intriguing.
Was certainly worth being driven around and not having to bother with that, so we were free to explore.

Amazing day! - The tour was amazing and would highly recommend. Our guide was Zenon, a local from the area of Teotitlan del Valle just between Oaxaca and Tlacolula. Zenon made this a fantastic experience with all of his shared knowledge throughout. We began the day picked up just outside our Airbnb in a comfortable van, and once on the road Zenon began sharing his background and information not just about the tour but some of the history of the surrounding areas and what we’d see as well as pass by. Our first stop was the Tule Tree, a 2000+ year old Montezuma Cypress which pictures can’t do justice. After Tule, we visited Hierve el Agua, doing both the hike down to view the large falls and then hiking back up to do the pools. The hike is definitely worth it, but is a steep walk back up with many steps (especially felt if it’s a hot day). After hierve el agua, we visited Mitla where Zenon shared a wealth of information regarding the Zapotec people that lived there as well as the impact of the conquistadors. After Mitla we stopped for lunch at a buffet style restaurant with a wide offering of local cuisine. Would definitely recommend the Memelas (like a tick tortilla with beans and cheese on top) and the grilled nopales (grilled cactus). Following lunch, we finished off with an amazing Mezcal tour where you could sample the diverse flavor profiles found amongst all the different varieties of Mezcal. Highly recommend Cuishe, Jabali, Tobala, and Arroqueno. To end the day, we went to a local weaving/rug workshop in Teotitlan del Valle, close to where Zenon’s family are from. We learned quite a bit about the natural process of dying the fiber and weaving. Zenon’s Zapotec background and knowledge made the experience so much more rich, and would recommend this day trip to anyone interested in learning more about the diverse and storied history of the greater Oaxaca area.

Good mix of outdoor, historical and cultural activities. - Swimming at Hierve el Agua and visit to Mitla were highlights. Guide Xenon was wonderful-low key, sincere and not phony. I am grateful that he shared his indigenous heritage and knowledge with us.

Too rushed and too many activities for one day - While the locations in the itinerary were all great, it was a lot for one day. I wish we’d gone to Hierve el Agua on our own. We only had enough time to hike down to the bottom of one of the falls but not both. And no time to get in the water. I guess if we got in the water then no time to hike down! Mitla was also rushed. We were in and out. Also, we didn’t get lunch until 3 pm. Some of the elderly folk in our group were starving and needed food a lot sooner than 3 pm. Overall you do get to see a lot but it’s too much for one day. I think the Tule tree, Mitla, and Hierve el Agua would be enough for one day. Scrap the mezcal tasting and the textile demo and let people spend more time in the other 3 places. Or just go on your own and take your time.
