Informative, laid-back, friendly private mezcal tour - Two friends and I were interested in learning more about small-batch Mezcal production and gravitated to this tour over larger bus tours. We loved having our private guide, Cesar, who invited us into his family’s home for two meals, let us try our hand at rolling a tortilla onto a comal, showed us his uncle’s agave farm, his cousin’s small-batch mezcal distillery and a friend’s larger, but still small-scale, Mezcal distillery. We got to ride in a tuk-tuk and walk and around agave fields. Cesar took very good care of us and i highly recommend this tour.

Amazing authentic experience of Oaxaca (and delicious mezcal!) - César, the guide and visionary behind Yudiza Tours is fantastic. He cares deeply for his community and is proud to share his life and family with visitors. I’ve rarely found tour experiences like this, and highly recommend it. My wife and I did a day-long mezcal distillery tour, which was much more than just about mezcal. César grew up in San Dionisio Ocotepec and so is familiar with this beautiful area of Oaxaca. We learned about the town, the culture and daily life for Zapotec community’s like his, and got to meet his family. Pick-up and drop-off in Oaxaca City was seamless and the drive out to the country was beautiful. César’s mother and their family friends cooked a delicious meal in a lovely traditional setting in their home. For the mezcal, César took us to both ancestral and artisanal distilleries. Although there was no production happening at this time (it was a very dry time in the season), the producers explained everything, showed us the sites, and provided generous tastings. We also got to walk around in the agave fields. (If you want to be guaranteed to see production, you probably have to go to an industrial distillery, but then you’d miss out on a lot of other interesting things; it’s well worth it to see the smaller production and to support these local distillers; from what I can see from other people who have done this tour, it’s very common that you do get to see and even participate in the production). So, if you want to really get a sense of life outside the big city, to taste some great mezcal and to meet the local people who make it, take a tour with César! If we were staying longer, we would have considered some of the other experiences he offers, too. Thanks César!!

Highly recommended - Amazing tour with César and his family! Definitely recommended if you want something unique and personalized. Not a package tour at all (I mean this in the best way possible). Learned so much about mezcal at three different distilleries (all friends of César), ate a great lunch with his family, played with his dogs, explored his village, and got a ride back to Oaxaca. A very special day.

Authentic amazing day in a zapotec village - We had an amazing day in a zapotec village. Everything was adjusted to our wishes (where needed). We were picked up in Oaxaca, the family in the village cooked for us on a fireplace and we learned a lot during the whole day. Everyone we met was extremely friendly and it was a very personalized experience. Highly recommend!

If you are looking for an authentic day with someone who is willing to share his culture, his home, his community and do so with an open heart you couldn’t ask for more. Cesar is an excellent steward of Zapotec community and is trying change things for the better. The personal, artisanal mezcal your, the meals with his family and community members were all excellent. Our Best Day In Oaxaca! - Cesar was a fantastic guide, while his family and everyone we met during the day were absolutely great and so welcoming. Seeing the distilleries was a very interesting experience, and even better to see it done on a smaller scale with the best quality mezcal we have ever had. Food was fantastic, mezcal was brilliant. Highly highly recommend!

Traditional village Mezcal experience - I’m interested in indigenous culture in Mexico and I wanted to get a better understanding of Oaxacan Mezcal culture and small lot production of this spirit so important to Zapotec people. There are a multitude of small distilleries and I wanted somebody to help me find truly artisanal ‘palenques’ of good quality. Cesar is this person. We went to Cesar’s village, met his family. What wonderful, hospitable people! Then we went to visit some very busy mezcal distilleries, places I would never have found on my own. Cesar helped me get a complete understanding of the process and we sampled the product. We found a Palenque with a traditional ceramic still as well that produced small lots of wonderful Mezcal available at a fraction of the price for the commercial product in Oaxaca city. Cesar is friendly, tri-lingual, very honest, and I couldn’t recommend him more!

Authentic Experience! - The trip was fantastic. Far better than your typical organized tour which often feels less intimate. If you seek authentic, look no further. Highly recommend!

Not inclusive - They do not offer options for a single visitor, very frustrating, what shall someone do if he/she comes alone?!
