A must see and a first-rate guide - Monte Albán a must see. Tour guide was outstanding. An intriguing and informative look at ssettlement that started in 500BC. Visit to Convento was limited to outdoor areas (construction in interior to preserve site) but still lots of activity (music & dancing). Site itself is very impressive. Retail stops all quality places, with intro to barro negro the highlight.

A Great Overview of Oaxaca - A massive day of exploration with an excellent guide. Highly recommended for first time visitors to Oaxaca, especially if you don’t have access to a car as this tour gets you out into the countryside. Keep a good grip on your camera(s) if seated in the back of the very nice mini-van, as they might go flying; Mexican potholes and speedbumps are a bit more, uh, aggressive than Westerners might be used to.

Exceptional Guide brings ruins of Monte Alban to life! - Clemente Vicente was an amazing guide…..gliding easily back & forth between English & Spanish seamlessly. He speaks the Zapotec language & knows the culture & history. The ruins of Monte Alban are amazing but without the backstory you would miss a lot.

Great tour but long day… - Our guide, Moses, was excellent! He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his culture and made it come to life. The only complaint I would have is that it was a very long day (about 11 hours from pick up to drop off), so be prepared. If I had to do it over I would probably break it up into two days, but if you want to see all the sights with limited time, this is definitely a great option. Seeing the artisans at work was interesting, especially the black pottery.

Long day, bring cash. Unless you like Alebrijes and clay pottery, Id stick to a Monte Alban only tour - The Monte Alban site tour is the highlight; everything else that day felt like filler. We ended 2 hours over schedule. Lunch isn't included and is cash only. Our tour guide never said anything about needing cash, and there were no signs at the restaurant. This happened again at the Ex Convento de Cuilapam de Guerrero even though the Viator summary says "Admission Ticket Free". It was cash only, and we didn't know how much until we got to the entrance. Also, bring small bills because, for some reason, everyone has a hard time breaking $500 pesos. TLDR: Giving it 4 starts for Monte Alban. 1 star off because of the cash issue and the time.

Monte Alban was magnificent - Monte Alban was a truly magnificent site; happy to have gone earlier in the day as the sun is fierce. Could have done without the trip to the artisans.

Great sites for the most part. Disappointing experience. - It was nice to be picked up on time close to our hotel. We were a smalll group of 7 and so we were looking forward to touring Monte Alban. However, the tour guide allowed about 25-30 "non-tour" folks to come along on the tour around Monte Alban with us. This made it impossible to get close to him to hear his explanations etc. It was really annoying. The wood factory was very interesting. We then went for lunch which was sub-par at best and not at all comparable in quality to the lunch we had on our tour to Hierve el Agua. It was very disappointing. The monastery itself was a good place to see. The black pottery not so much as it was just a store and did not demonstrate the process of making the black pottery. All in all we found the tour guide to be disinterested in his customers and he did not engage with us other than to provide information. He was also very tired and slept when we were driving.
