Amazing Hike with an Awesome Guide! - I absolutely loved the hike! The scenery was breathtaking, and the trail offered just the right mix of challenge and enjoyment. Our guide, Luis, was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area. He made sure everyone in the group was comfortable and shared fascinating insights along the way. I highly recommend this hike to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure. Thank you, Luis, for making it such a memorable experience!

Great day in nature with excellent guide - Luis is a friendly and helpful guide, who took care to ensure our dietary preferences were accommodated (vegetarian and vegan). The hike was strenuous, but beautiful. We only did the first part of the hike, and Luis had the shuttle take us to a place where we could rest in the shade and wait for the younger and more energetic hikers. Be prepared for a physically demanding day and bring a book if you think you might want to cut your hike short. Views up in the mountains were great!

Amazing hiking day trip from Oaxaca - Luis picked us up from the centre of town and we drove out to the hills. First stop was a very tasty breakfast. We drove further up into the hills to begin the hike. Luis offered to tailor the route to suit what we wanted before we set-off and again on the hike. There's a network of trails so things can be switched out on the fly. We went outside of the peak mushroom season but there were still different species to be found. Luis explained them all and gave identification tips on sight, smell and texture. There's a great deal of medicinal plants and these were explained and tasted as we passed them. Our route was excellent and had a lot of diversity of terrain and fauna. It had a little scrambling in it which was fun and Luis was patient with my wife who is a bit tentative. After the hike we went to a fantastic family restaurant with an amazing view and very tasty food. He's a very knowledgeable guy and truly passionate about these hills and the plants in them.

Getting Away From it All at 10,000' - Do you love nature? Are you healthy? Have you experienced strenuous activity at 9000+ feet elevation? I am a 70+ year old male with hip replacements and arthritic knees. I exercise multiple times per week. I live at sea level. I was able to complete the first two-thirds of the hike that took us to a 360 degree view from approximately 10,000', then to a refreshing spring, and finally returned us to our starting spot. I was exhausted but excited and satisfied. Our guide and several others continued on to summit at another view point before reuniting with the rest of our crew, one of whom experienced some symptoms of altitude sickness though not debilitating. Would I do it again? Absolutely! The guide was fluent in English, knowledgeable about the ecosystem and concerned for our health and safety. It is not a walk in the park but a mildly adventurous highlight to your vacation.

Great day hike with local expert! - We had an amazing day with Luis! He knows a lot about the Sierra del Norte and Oaxaca, and can tell you a lot about the flora and fauna. The hike was also really cool – Luis adapts the route (and its difficulty) to the group. He even took us to a waterfall for ‘the best shower we ever had’ ;-) I loved the breakfast and lunch at a traditional ‘comedor’. These are places you wouldn’t go to without a local guide. Long story short: I would definitely recommend this hike. Especially if you like to go a bit off the beaten path and not follow the rest of the tourists!

Stand out tour of my trip! - Luis lead an amazing hike through these magical mountains and curated the entire day to the groups needs and comfort levels. His knowledge of the areas plants, funghi and culture really enriched the experience. The food was also amazing - some of the best meals I've had in Mexico. It was also a pleasant surprise that not only were vegan options available they were plentiful and i got to taste so many different dishes and mushrooms local to the area. I was even sent home with leaves foraged on the hike to make a native tea I enjoyed at breakfast.

Highlight of my Oaxaca trip - I cannot say enough good things about this adventure! Luis was an amazing guide, he was so enthusiastic and knowledgable about our entire day. Everything about the day was perfection. The drive into the mountains was beautiful, the roads took us up above the clouds. We stopped for a massive breakfast that fueled us up for the hike. Luis then brought us to the trailhead and we started our hike. When I signed up for the adventure I had no idea that we'd be hunting for mushrooms during our hike. As an on again off again mushroom hunter this was a real treat. We collected so many different types on mushrooms on our trek, and were able to eat many of them at the end of the day. I won't go too much into the hike, other than to say we got to see a variety of different landscapes and terrains. The section we hiked through a narrow valley alongside a fast running stream was a big highlight for me (even if it was raining/ hailing at that time). At the end of our trek Luis brought us to a cute little mountain village where a local restaurant cooked up our mushroom haul. Everything was delicious. The entire day was a real treat. When I get the chance to return to Oaxaca I'll 100% reach out to Luis for another trek into the Sierra Norte!!

Wonderful guide and environment - A pleasant surprise, Luis, our excellent guide. Very pleasant, patient, smiling and with great knowledge of the place in terms of routes, the town and its inhabitants. During the tour he taught us and explained different types of vegetation and was a great connoisseur of all types of fungi.

Too difficult for me. - I am a walker, not a hiker, and really, the hike was too difficult for me. I did enjoy the breakfast in the small town, and the lunch/dinner in another small town. The tour was expertly managed, Luis has done this a time or two! Eva was assigned to take up the rear, I was the slowest, finding it difficult to jump over rivers and climb up rocks, I took my time as to not injure myself. I was treated by Eva's vast knowledge of the medicinal plants and their uses along the way. So, I enjoyed parts of the hiking tour.
