Additional Information

We extend a heartfelt welcome to our home! You’ll instantly feel integrated into our family and customs. Our greeting ritual, just like the one my grandmother used to share with me, begins with hot chocolate and bread. I’m excited to share my experiences and the traditions of my heritage with you. The instructions can be given in both Spanish or English.

Our interactive session will happen in our splendid outdoor kitchen situated on our patio. You’ll gain practical experience in cooking and preparing food in the traditional Oaxaqueña kitchen commonly known as a ‘brasero’ - a traditional stove with an open fire, made from bricks.

You will actively participate in our cooking experience, learning how to concoct starters, traditional beverages, salsas, and main courses.

At the end of our session, we will sit together and enjoy the fruit of our labor - a shared meal around the table filled with food, drinks, stories, laughter, affection, and of course, mezcal.

We eagerly await to create lasting connections with you over our mutual passion for food and flavor which is one of the most enduring traditions of my culture.

A Must-Do Experience! - My wife and I had the most amazing cooking class with Adhey and Enrique! (And Pedra) Not only did we learn to cook amazing oaxaqueño dishes but we also got to know so much more about the culture and community outside of the city center. If you want a special, personal experience on your vacation then visiting Adhey and her family is a must! ¡Provecho!

Wonderful People, Wonderful Food - I would give this 6+ stars if I could. Chef Adhey and her family are wonderfully engaging, welcoming, big-hearted people. They take you into their own home and walk you through how to cook delightful Oaxacan dishes from beginning to end. They teach you about the instruments/tools, techniques, desired outcomes, everything you could want from a cooking class; and, along the way, they treat you as honored guests. Absolutely wonderful hosts. Not to mention, the food is absolutely excellent. You will not leave hungry or wanting for anything more. We did a lot during our visit to Oaxaca and had many delightful experiences with wonderful people; this experience, however, stood apart and was my personal favorite. An absolute must-do for anyone visiting Oaxaca.

The best cooking class - Adhey is super cute 😍 she and her husband made my 5 friends and I feel like family. The food was delicious, the laughter was never lacking, it was like cooking with the family in a very fun way 🥰 We changed a tour to be able to attend the cooking class and it was the best decision. We are all sure that this cooking class was our favorite part of the trip to Oaxaca. We look forward to Adhey and his family visiting us in New Zealand very soon.

Best experience of my trip to Mexico. - Normally I avoid tours and planned activities on a trip. In this case I had only a couple of days in Oaxaca and on a spontaneous decision signed up for Adhey’s cooking program. Really glad I did. First Adhey and Enrique are delightful people who were welcoming and fun to be with. They made me feel comfortable and engaged immediately. We all did the prep work and cooking together. The meal we prepared was delicious and memorable. Definitely do this if you have a chance.

A Magical Evening in Oaxaca - My daughters and I were delighted with the experience of preparing an authentic Oaxacan dinner with Traditional Oaxaquena Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. Adhey and Enrique create a joyful cooking atmosphere on the rooftop of their home. Adhey led us, a group of about ten, through the preparation of beautiful, fresh ingredients while Enrique told stories and poured the Mescal. After the chopping and stirring and tasting, we sat at the communal table and raised a toast over the meal we had prepared. The sun was setting, the lights on the hill behind the house came on, lively chat...and delicious food. Magical!
