We Loved our Food Tour with Betsy! - I was part of a ladies trip to Oaxaca in early February. Our food tour with Betsy was clearly the highlight of our time in the city. She speaks excellent English, is quite knowledgeable and led us on a wonderful foodie adventure for almost 4 hours. We all loved our time with Betsy! We cannot recommend her more highly!

Very good affordable tour. - Elizabeth spoke very good English and gave us a lot of information about culture and food in Oaxaca. We were given the opportunity at our cost to try any of the food and drink she discussed. The two markets we visited were close together. We also visited a Mezcal shop and a chocolate shop. We recommend this tour.

AMAZING! Good value for money - We booked this tour literally on the morning through email, very quick response time! Elizabeth our guide spoke PERFECT english & explained all the food and its preparation clearly to us and was patient as we asked questions and took notes... the tour ended up as a private tour and went onto 2.5h instead of the 1.5h. We stoped at 2 food markets & ate soooo much food! Definately go without eating breakfast... the flame cooked meat was my favourite & we will go back to eat there again during our stay. We brought our baby in her buggy which was not ideal for the narrow crouded market streets but we managed, i would suggest a baby carrier would be easier... Absolutely would reccomend to friends and family!

Great in-depth tour with Itzl! - We booked a street food tour with low expectations. We were lucky that we were the only 2 booked on the tour. We are one vegetarian and one pescatarian. Our guide, Itzl, did not know our food preferences ahead of time, but quickly adapted the tour to suit us. She is a local woman and took us to spots that we wouldn’t have known about via online blogs/guides- including long-standing institutions with history. She gave us information about the history of Oaxaca in relation to food and was a wealth of knowledge about culture. She seems very happy to answer questions- and we had many. She gave us ideas for future places to eat in Oaxaca, too. She was so smart and friendly- she spent extra time with us, past the official end of the tour, answering questions and talking. We were very pleased with our experience and highly recommend Itzl as a guide!

Great walk through the main markets - Beside the great tour and tour guide (Elisabeth), what I like the most is that food is not included, so you can buy whatever you feel like trying!

Subpar Food Tour - Took the food tour that cost $15 per person last week of October of this year 2019 and was disappointed. The tour was not run well or at all informative. It was myself, my sister and a group of 5 others that were a friends. The tour guide did little except walk us around the city. We stopped at Mezcal store, Mayordomo chocolate shop/ restaurant and large Benito Juarez market. Most of the places/ stalls we stopped at gave free samples to try but would have done that even if we were not on a tour. Guide provided little knowledge and insight. Literally guide did not teach us one thing. Guide just was wandering around the market and let the group of 5 people take over by letting them run the tour, go off to buy things, stand around and talk etc. guide had no control nor actually ran anything. Tour was supposed to be 1.5-2 hours. At two hours I had to leave as I had been sitting there for a half hour waiting on other people to finish their beers. The guide just led us around the market blindly and kept asking us where we wanted to stop to eat- no guidance at what stalls were good, no inside info, etc. We finally sat at a stall in the market to eat and the stall was not even a good one- in fact it was a steal crowded by tourists and busy. Definitely not an authentic spot. Guide lost total control of group and it stunk as people like myself were subject to the large group whims. I did not pay to sit there and watch other Americans just stand around and drink beer. Didn’t get to complete tour as it went way over. The two hours I did spend on the tour was a waste of time and money. There is literally nothing on the tour that I couldn’t do, try or see alone. I should have just done free tour. Oaxaca has such rich culinary heritage I was very disappointed.

Overpriced. Underwhelmed. - First our guide failed to show up. They rescheduled for the next day after we waited the better part of the afternoon. We got a discount but still believed it to be overpriced. The tour didn’t include any food from the street. We tried two dishes at the market and a drink each. We were hoping to understand more about the amazing cuisine in Oaxaca. We didn’t seem to have anything that was uniquely oaxacan. The guide didn’t give us options or explain local produce and couldn’t wait to leave. Utterly disappointing.
