The Call of the Rapids

As the clock struck 2:30 PM, we were summoned to the equipment barn, where we donned our helmets, life jackets, and picked up our oars. The excitement was palpable as we boarded the bus that would take us to the drop zone.

Into the Heart of the Rapids

The journey to the Ocoee #2 Dam was filled with camaraderie and laughter. Our guide, DMJ - David Michael Jackson, a seasoned rafter and 7th-grade teacher, regaled us with tales of the river and the Cherokee National Forest. His passion for the river was infectious, and his detailed instructions on safety and maneuvering the oars instilled confidence in our group.

As we launched into the Middle Ocoee, the river roared to life around us. The first rapid hit us with a force that sent a jolt of adrenaline through my veins. The water surged and swirled, challenging us to work as a team to navigate the tumultuous waves. Each rapid was a new adventure, a test of our mettle and teamwork. The 17 major rapids of the Middle Ocoee were relentless, but with each one, our confidence grew, and so did our smiles.
