Highlights
  • Ocosingo - The municipality of Ocosingo spans 9,520,117 square kilometers, making it the largest in Chiapas. It stretches from the eastern part of the state to the Guatemalan border along the Usumacinta River and encompasses a significant portion of the Lacandon Jungle. Breakfast (not included) will be on the way to the Agua Azul Waterfalls.
  • Cascadas de Agua Azul - After pick-up, we will head to Ocosingo for a buffet or a la carte breakfast at the “Mi Ranchito” restaurant (not included), with an estimated time of 50 minutes. Our next stop will be the Agua Azul Waterfalls, where we will spend 2 hours admiring the stunning turquoise blue waters.
  • Cascadas de Misol-Ha - We will then continue to Misol-Ha to see a beautiful waterfall over 20 meters high, spending 1 hour there. After the tour, we will have 1 hour for lunch (not included) at the restaurant in the same ecotourism center or at the Axkan hotel in Palenque.
  • Zona Arqueologica de Palenque - Alongside Tikal and Calakmul, Palenque was one of the most powerful cities of the Classic Maya, home to one of the most notable dynasties, including Pakal, whose tomb was discovered in 1952 by archaeologist Alberto Ruz L’Huillier. Like all Classic Maya cities, Palenque was connected to others through trade networks or alliances among rulers. The territory was organized into city-states, identified by emblem glyphs, but the foundation of this organization—trade, alliances, and war—implied constant mobility. Hieroglyphic inscriptions not only identify the site but also detail matrimonial and political alliances and conflicts between cities. Mayan inscriptions are among the earliest forms of writing in Mesoamerica and have been extensively studied.

Additional Information

The pick-up process commences at 04:00 am at your hotel, with a duration of about 30 minutes. Our initial destination is the Agua Azul waterfalls, but a stop at the city of Ocosingo for breakfast (not provided) precedes this. Arriving at the Agua Azul waterfalls, you’ll have ample time to explore, swim, and unwind. We then proceed to Misol Ha, a waterfall with an approximate height of 40 meters. Swimming is not advised here; instead, you are suggested to use this time to tour the cave behind the waterfall. A meal break will be incorporated during this journey (meal not provided). Later, the journey continues to Palenque to explore the archaeological site on a 2-hour tour guided in Spanish. We will depart from Palenque around 05:00 pm and expect to arrive in San Cristobal by 10:00 pm. You have the option to prolong your stay in Palenque, just inform us of your hotel accommodation.

Worth the long day - Long day but went fast as there is a lot to see and do. Driver on time, comfortable van with ac. Stop for lunch if wanted around 3:30pm buffet 170 pesos. Well worth the time. Also stopped in the morning for breakfast if wanted(30 min).

The ideal day out (and transport to Palenque), if you have the right driver! - The places we stopped at were truly incredible - swimming at Agua Azul was a real highlight. My main point of concern is that the driver we had was simply awful. We were squeezed into the front two seats of a tiny minibus where I didn't have a proper seatbelt, but any time I slid towards him he elbowed me in the side. He also complained a lot throughout the trip, went stupidly fast down winding mountain roads, and continuously ate snacks with his mouth open and spat food everywhere. Honestly, if it weren't for him, the trip would have been perfect.
