Highlights
  • Odense - The walking tour includes 15 stops and lasts for 2 hours.

The focus is on the city’s evolution from a bustling industrial center with noisy streets and heavy traffic to a more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly environment.

We explore three key areas:

The city center, where the transformation is fully realized.

The former industrial zone, situated between the city center and the harbor, which is currently being completely redeveloped.

The harbor, which is partially redeveloped but still a work in progress.

Throughout the tour, we also discuss strategies for creating new jobs and affordable housing for young people.

You’ll gain insights into how the municipality of Odense initiated and managed this transformation to shape its future.

We will also touch on the reactions of Odense’s residents to these changes and their participation in the ongoing, lively debate about them.

  • Odense Havnebad - The tour includes several stops at the harbor, one of which is the harbor pool.

We’ll view the pool from the outside and discuss it, but we won’t go inside.

The pool serves as a symbol of the harbor’s transformation from an industrial area to a space with housing, culture, and activities for the city’s residents.

We’ll also cover the city’s housing policy, which aims to provide housing access to all social classes.

  • Nordatlantisk Hus I Odense - The North Atlantic House in Odense exemplifies the growing cultural offerings in the harbor area.

The North Atlantic House fosters cultural collaboration between the Nordic countries, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands through events, exhibitions, and partnerships. The building also boasts intriguing architecture.

  • H. C. Andersens House - In the summer of 2021, the Odense City Museum unveiled H.C. Andersen’s House. Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the museum blends Danish half-timbered architecture with Andersen’s enchanting stories. The house plays a significant role in the city’s downtown development.
