THE Cooking Class to Take when Visiting Lisbon - Authentic Portuguese cooking class in a small village outside Lisbon. The food was excellent (chorizo, soup, and Seafood) which we all had a hand in making! Great host, used a slew of local ingredients and what she had from her garden…could not have been a more genuine experience.

Special night in special location with a special lady creating a special dish. - This was more than just leaning to cook a Portuguese meal. It was an invitation to a home that has been in the family for a century, learning some Portuguese history and together with Katija, preparing an amazing meal. I might add that we prepared a meal that I have been avoiding during the 30 days we have been in Portugal. Anything related to the octopus was not in my dietary plans. I have been missing out. I am not the cook in the family, my wife is that special person, but I highly recommend this experience.

Highlight of our trip! - Cooking class in a quaint, cozy village with one of the locals made this class so enjoyable! Our host served us appetizers and wine while she explained what we would be doing and then stories to go along with the culture. During and after each course we all shared stories and comments about the foods. We also shared our love for gardening so we all had a great connection with our lovely host! I was in heaven as I was the one that got to actually cook at the stove! All of the courses where perfectly explained and tasted delicous, even to those in our group who are not crazy about fish. They loved it!

Fabulous Hostess and Fabulous Food! - The fact that it was in K's home is what made it appealing to book. Five cousins from USA who love to explore, cook and eat. This experience was so much fun and so delicious! K made our time there so down to earth with her personal stories as well as her beautiful smile, and lots of wine, water and food! Would book with her again if we ever return to the area!

Wow...Wow...Wow! - I've traveled extensively around the globe. I've had many wonderful experiences too numerous to count. But in all candor, and without hyperbole, and can say this experience with Katija will never be forgotten. Not only is she a wonderfully kind and accommodating host willing to invite us into her private space and share her home with us, but she quickly became a cherished friend. To start with, she shared an assortment of olives, bread, sausage and other aperitifs that whetted our appetites. She shared the relevant history of Portugal, and how it all influenced life among all Portuguese, but especially the food culture. It was fascinating to say the least. We then started preparing our meal, slicing and dicing peppers onions and other aromatics and began to sauté them. While we don't drink alcohol, she had wine ready for us. (Be aware that this is not a wine tasting event, it's a cooking demonstration!) It was wonderful to learn about bacalao, the ubiquitous dried codfish that permeates Portuguese culinary culture. She showed us how it is prepared, why it's so popular, and how many ways it is used in homes across the Iberian peninsula. She encouraged us to stay involved in the cooking process, adding rice, shrimp, etc to the pot as we prepared it. She took us to her local garden where she picked some fresh herbs and cooked a tea for us. We continued to listen, chat, and giggle through the entire process. As we sat and ate our concoction, it was simply delicious. We couldn't stop eating and we left stuffed and satisfied. We continued to chat and time simply flew by as we had lost all track of time, we were so absorbed in this culture-rich, in-depth conversation. Katija is such a wonderful and kind host. To say that we enjoyed ourselves would be a gross understatement. This experience was the highlight of our 2 week, 7 country whirlwind tour of Europe and Africa. We will never forget this experience. Thanks Katija! God bless you for your goodness!

Authentic and Personal Cooking Experience - A lovely and personal experience. The class was only the two of us, where we shared Portuguese wine and food while reminiscing and exchanging stories. Katija is so kind and insightful regarding the history of the cuisine we made. We had egg and garlic soup, octopus rice, and a lemon cream dessert, but she rotates the menu to personalize each guest's experience. I can not recommend this experience enough!

Informal setting in a village between Lisboa and Sintra - There was a kind offer to be picked up at the nearest train station. The home setting in a village context is informal. The cooking workshop was at elementary level. I personally found the activity overpriced.
