• Venetsanos Winery - Perched above the port of Athinios, Venetsanos Winery boasts breathtaking views of Santorini’s caldera. The Venetsanos family boasts a long-standing heritage in winemaking. Initially, their wine was produced for local consumption, but it was later exported widely, especially to Russia. Constructed in 1947 by the Venetsanos family, it was the island’s first industrial winery. The winery’s most notable aspect is its architectural design, which leverages gravity to enhance energy efficiency at a time when electricity and other forms of energy were scarce. The winery was innovatively built from the top down.
