From Waves to Greens: A Golfer’s Delight in Oistins
Trading my surfboard for a set of golf clubs, I ventured to the Barbados Golf Club in Oistins for a day of island golfing. With warm welcomes and a beautiful course, it was a refreshing escape from the waves.
A Warm Welcome to the Greens
As I stepped onto the lush grounds of the Barbados Golf Club, I was greeted by a delightful cleaning lady who set the tone for the day with her warm smile and helpful directions. Her genuine hospitality was a refreshing start, and it reminded me of the friendly island spirit that I cherish so much. The reception team was equally welcoming, and soon I was introduced to the caddy manager, ready to embark on my golfing adventure.
The course itself is a beautiful links-style layout, with side-by-side running 9s that offer a unique challenge for golfers of all skill levels. As someone who spends most of my time riding the waves, the idea of trading my surfboard for a set of golf clubs was both thrilling and a bit daunting. But the open, public nature of the course made it feel accessible and inviting, even for a novice like me.
Navigating the Course
Once I got my hands on the rental clubs, I noticed they were a bit worn, with some grips missing at the top. It was a minor hiccup, but it didn’t dampen my spirits. The course staff were attentive and eager to assist, ensuring that I had everything I needed to enjoy my round. Water stations were conveniently placed every four holes, though I did have to ask for a bottle after the ninth hole. A small oversight, but easily remedied.
The greens were in excellent condition, and the course itself was a joy to play. Each hole presented its own set of challenges, and I found myself fully immersed in the game, appreciating the serene beauty of the landscape. The gentle Caribbean breeze and the sound of the ocean in the distance added to the experience, making it a perfect day away from the surf.
A Relaxing Finish
After completing my round, I headed to the clubhouse bar, where I was met by the lovely Eboni and Keisha. Their friendly banter and delicious food were the perfect way to unwind after a day on the course. The camaraderie and laughter shared with fellow golfers made the experience all the more memorable.
Reflecting on my day at the Barbados Golf Club, I realized that golf, much like surfing, is about more than just the sport itself. It’s about the connections you make, the moments of tranquility, and the joy of being in a beautiful place. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or a curious beginner, this course offers a welcoming escape that captures the essence of island life. Just be sure to check those clubs before you tee off!
