Ollantaytambo - We’ll pick you up from your hotel between 5:30 am and 6:00 am. Don’t forget to bring your original passport and ISIC card if you booked as a student.
We’ll head to our first stop in Ollantaytambo to use the restrooms and have breakfast.
Piscacucho - Next, we’ll continue to Piscacucho, km 82, the starting point of our trek where we’ll meet our team, including our cook and porters. With passports in hand, we’ll pass through the first checkpoint on the Inca Trail and start our hike with a gentle ascent.
Patallacta - We’ll hike for three hours on relatively flat terrain, following the river and enjoying magnificent views of the snow-capped La Verónica (5,750 m). We’ll have lunch and rest in Miskay.
Wayllabamba - We’ll continue to the Inca town of Llactapata, where we’ll admire the impressive agricultural terraces. The Inca Trail then follows the left bank of the Cusichaca River to the town of Huayllabamba, where we’ll camp and have dinner.
Huayllabamba - Warmiwañuska (Dead Woman’s Pass) - Pacaymayu
Llulluchapampa - We’ll wake up at 6:00 am with hot coca tea brought to our tents to prepare for today’s hike. After breakfast, we’ll leave the camp at 7:00 am. The uphill walk through Llulluchapampa offers the chance to see various bird species, including hummingbirds, falcons, and black-breasted eagles.
Dead Woman - The trail then passes through a beautiful cloud forest filled with Qeuña trees before entering the Puna, an area of treeless grasslands found only at this altitude in the Andes. Walk at your own pace to catch your breath or stretch a muscle. The final challenging climb takes us to the highest pass on the Inca Trail at Warmiwañuska.
We’ll enjoy unique and spectacular views of the Andes and snow-covered peaks as we continue our hike, crossing the slopes on the left side of the valley towards our camp in Pacaymayu (3,600 meters above sea level).
Pacaymayu - Runkuraqay - Sayacmarca - Phuyupatamarca - Wiñayhuayna
Runkuracay - After a hearty breakfast, we’ll begin a steady climb towards the second highest pass at Runkuraqay.
Sayacmarca - Sayacmarca, meaning “inaccessible city,” is an impressive structure of granite stones. The Inca road continues through changing layers of cloud forests filled with rare orchids, hanging mosses, bromeliads, and ferns. After the Inca tunnel, a gentle climb will take us to the third pass (3,700 meters above sea level), offering incredible views of several snow-capped peaks, including Salkantay.
Puyupatamarca - We’ll visit the ruins of Phuyupatamarca and receive a brief explanation of the mysteries of Inca architecture. We’ll then continue to the impressive agricultural site of Intipata before arriving at our final camp.
Winay Wayna - Wiñayhuayna is the last official camp before Machu Picchu. Here, we’ll say goodbye to our cooks and porters as we prepare to continue our journey to Machu Picchu the next day.
Wiñaywayna - Intipunku - Machu Picchu
Winay Wayna - We’ll wake up very early, around 4:00 am, to reach Inti Punku (the Gate of the Sun) and see Machu Picchu with the first rays of the sun. This will be a 1-2 hour hike with significant upward stretches in the last half. Since we’ll be walking in the dark, a flashlight is highly recommended. The trail is clearly marked and takes approximately 1½ hours.
The trail hugs the side of a mountain and descends into a cloud forest before reaching a nearly vertical flight of 50 steps that leads to the final pass.
Machu Picchu - Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, we’ll have a guided tour lasting approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, followed by some free time to explore on our own. The bus ticket from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes is included, with buses departing every 15 minutes to take you down to Aguas Calientes.
