Archaeologists uncovered the city’s remains in 1992 using remote sensing technology. Ubar is believed to have been inhabited from around 2800 B.C. to approximately 300 A.D. and served as a significant trading hub for frankincense before being engulfed by the encroaching dunes. At the site, a small museum showcases archaeological findings.
