Biking in never before seen part of NZ. - Loved staying at the Lodge, where the rooms and beds were so comfortable, the meals delicious and the staff welcoming. The track itself was quite rutty but we all survived using care. Great bike ride to do in good weather…but you really need warm gloves early morning in March. Shuttle service was informative and allowed our car to be left in a secure overnight location. Loved the swing bridges and scenery.

Must do track if you like biking and history and scenery - this is really well organized. They will provide whatever shuttle / hire/ accommodation you need. Due to time, we only did a 1 day ride. Pick up from Ongarue, transport to the lodge with hire bikes, overnight there and ride back to Ongarue the next day The Lodge is REALLY nice, and provides everything including packed lunches. The ride is a must do. For us casual riders it was quite challenging in some places but we soon got used to it. The history, scenery and track were really interesting.

An awesome 2 day experience - We loved the whole experience of biking this trail. The bush was just stunning and the many swing bridges were a highlight - allowing a bird's eye view of the canopy. The whole experience was well organized - from initial contact with the company, to the shuttle to the start of the trail and transfer of luggage. The lodge was very comfortable and provided quality beds and a great space to socialise with fellow travellers.

Great communication - We would highly recommend the Timber Trail Shuttle service. We have had great communication throughout this experience, from the initial confirmation email, up until being dropped off at the Timber Trail lodge. All the staff we encountered were great but we do need to commend Rob, our shuttle driver, for his informative commentary. We learnt so much about the history of the area on our journey.

Thanks for rob - We suffered a rainstorm during the tour so the duration of the whole trip has been extended to 10 hours. By the end of the trip, Rob came to the park to check how's everyone going. This is the warmest behavior I have ever seen. We really appreciate it and many thanks to rob!

Great day of bikes and views! - Great biking and views! We heard some great local history from our shuttle driver, Rob. Then were off on a fantastic day with stunning scenery: suspension bridges, mountains, and new greenery around every turn. Definitely recommend!

Great day’s biking - Excellent day’s biking - Vaughan took my sister and I up to the Lodge where we started biking. I hired a Trek Roscoe mountain bike which was great for the job. Vaughan was personable and informative on the shuttle ride to the start. Recommended!

Fabulous shuttle service - This company goes over and above with their level of service. Our first shuttle driver, Vaughan, was incredibly helpful and full of local knowledge, and happy to share any info on weather he had. He even met usen route the next day to return a misplaced jacket. They were reliable and on time. Rob's commentary back from Ongarue was highly entertaining and informative. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

Definitely recommend! - This was a fantastic trail to ride - even in the pouring rain! The team at Timber Trail shuttle were great; they gave a lot of information about the area as we went in the shuttle, including history of the area and trail. Very well run! We are already keen to do it again! One member of our group hired an ebike which she found great to use. The rest of us had our own bikes so the shuttle of us and the bikes made this trail so easy to arrange. Great facilities to wash our bikes at the end too!

Use the shuttle service but look elsewhere to hire bikes. - I would give 0 stars if that was possible. The shuttle service and drivers were great, although both shuttles did run 1 hour late each day. But the bike hire, all I can say is seriously look for other options than hiring the bikes from here. A week out from starting the ride I contacted Timber Trail Shuttle and Bike Hire to ask if the pedals supplied were suitable for a grade 3 trail and had grip pins, as I had concern if it rained or if the trail was in a damaged condition flat worn plastic pedals would be unsafe for us. The reply back did not give me answer on the question at all, it was simply a statement that if I wanted the pedals changed it would be $10 per bike to change the pedals. This was my first red flag. I replied that I thought that was a bit greedy considering the cost we are paying for the entire two day package. I was prepared to pay the expense but could not agree to book that in until I saw the quality of the pedals supplied once we arrived. When we arrived we tested the bikes given to us. Mine, the dropper would not drop at all, the suspension forks compressed down and stayed down as if seized. I asked for another bike as they could not fix either problem, the tech went through all the bikes left over, this appeared to be 4 or 5 bikes as I was willing to accept either a large or medium frame, and he could only find 1 that a dropper post worked on, but the front suspension was also seized on that bike. My wife's bike had the same problem with the suspension plus her dropper lever seized open each time she operated it. We were told there was no other bike in her size and this was her only option. And the pedals were simply plastic flats with worn ridges instead of pins. I sought question with the owner... the owner told me that this was out of their control as the reason the shocks and the dropper posts were not working properly was because of volcanic pumice dust and thus not a maintenance issue. I informed her that the bikes need to be maintained to level that suits the environment they are used in... ie: if the dust is effecting them, maintain them more regularly. If they are unable to do that they need to have more bikes so that they can be removed from service and be maintained. The owner simply walked away stating the bikes would be fixed by tomorrow in that they could “flush the parts out with a hose”, this I found to be an unusual answer, not something I would expect at all. Trek bikes and all manufacturers for that matter design their bikes with a certain geometry, they spend a lot of R&D and money on this, if that is compromised by the shocks seizing or locking down, this lowers the front geometry, add to that the lack of any shock absorption and this can, especially on downhill, create are very dangerous situation for the rider. This does not just mean an uncomfortable ride, in my humble opinion it could lead to injury or worse. We also witnessed another rider have her hire bike arrive at the start of the Timber Trail and the derailleur was not working at all and the driver was not tech savvy to fix this and their group had to wait at least an hour for another bike to be shuttled up to the trail head. Sadly by renting us unsafe and poorly maintained bikes they sucked 90% of the joy of riding the Timber Trail from us. Later that week we had to miss 1 ride day due to my having to recover from a wrist tendon stressed from riding their bike. Not good enough. Trek Powerfully eMTBs are a quality bike with an adequate suspension for a grade 3 trail... but not in this case. We found out later we could have rented and shuttled to the head of the trail with another bike hire company in Taupo, their bikes were excellent and in retrospect I would choose this option... or any other bike hire company if you are able to so.
