• Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen - In 1936, the SS established the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp near Oranienburg. By 1945, it had detained over 200,000 individuals from across Europe. Countless perished due to starvation, illness, the consequences of forced labor, abuse, or were systematically killed.

From 1945-1950, the Soviet Special Camp No. 7/No. 1 was situated at this location.

The GDR inaugurated the Sachsenhausen National Memorial in 1961. Since 1993, the current Memorial and the Sachsenhausen Museum are under the stewardship of the Brandenburg Memorials Foundation.
