Just book this tour! - Miyo was absolutely amazing! She went above and beyond to make the tour absolutely amazing. We have done many food tours before but this one was the best. We got to try so many great dishes and Miyo helped explain the significance. We are so happy we spent the extra money and booked with culinary backstreets.

Culinary Backstreets Osaka Umami Town- the best food tour! - Absolutely amazing food tour. Miyo was the best guide! She gave insight into umami and the showed how food from Osaka really highlights it. She took us to some of the best food we had during our 2+ week trip in Japan! Also, this is one of my favorite Culinary Backstreets Tours and that is saying something because they are all wonderful!

Incredible tour with Miyo! - This was our 5th culinary backstreets tour, and it was our favorite. Our tour with Miyo was the highlight of our two week vacation in Japan. Her passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge of Osaka and food culture was incredible! She went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time, even tailoring parts of the tour to our preferences! All the stops were great and the food was amazing (best gyoza, best takoyaki of my life). We will never forget this experience and I highly recommend this tour to everyone.

Lovely day in Osaka! - A tour filled with delicious food and great company! We only had one full day in Osaka and decided to spend it on this food tour - it did not disappoint. Miyo, our guide, was a joy to spend the day with as we walked through the city tasting different dishes. I liked learning about some of Osaka’s history and the science of umami. I also appreciated trying food from stalls and restaurants that might have otherwise felt intimidating to visit as a foreigner. This was our second culinary backstreets tour (first time was in Napoli) and I can’t wait for whichever one we take next! These tours are a great way to get a sense of a city and its culture in a short amount of time.

Lucky us in Osaka! - We are so grateful to have landed on the Umami Town tour of Osaka! Miyo was a wonderful guide through the shopping passages, restaurants and culinary secrets of this exciting city. She was attentive, accommodating and of course, knowledgeably informative (with out being burdensome). Miyo kicked off the tour by introducing us to the old-school coffee shops in a historic area we would have never thought to seek out on our own. And then walked us through speciality shops that provided us treats to snack on immediately and hang on to for later in the tour. It was extremely cold in Osaka and she made sure we were always comfortable and taught us how to keep our hands warm and thirst quenched by holding hot beverages. Miyo navigated us quickly across town to the market where we tried so many stalls; fresh soy, takoyaki, and the best oysters ever! Somehow she avoided all the crazy foodie lines because she knew the secret alternatives - and I’ll never forget the cheesecake she surprised us with! We only felt hungry once in between stops and that’s because we came with a very full appetite- but we were stuffed by the end of the day and grateful to have some time to walk through the kitchenwares shopping zone to buy souvenirs like fancy knives or custom paper lanterns. 10/10 would travel with Miyo and CBS again!

Amazing Osaka food tour! - What an amazing day with Miyo! My wife and kids (14, 13 and 10) had a really great time with the sites and food. Miyo was so fun and while this was our 2nd tour with Culinary Backstreets in Japan (We did the Tokyo tour last week) this was completely different and we learnt a huge amount. Thank you for giving us the best chocolate, Oysters and Takoyaki we have ever had. (And thanks to Michelle from the Tokyo tour to ensure we didn’t duplicate anything). Would highly recommend!

Highlight of our Japan trip! - This was a fantastic tour!! Miyo was the best! We really enjoyed our time together and discovered unique and delicious food venues, including two Michelin Star rated spots. We went to spots we never would have seen without being guided by Miyo, and learned a lot about the local culture. Culinary Backstreets will definitely be on our list to do again wherever we travel!

Best tour ever! - WOW! Where do I start? Miyo and the Umami Town tour was the most amazing and special part of my entire 2 week trip to this beautiful country. I mean that whole heartedly; my trip would have been incomplete without it! She brought us to the coolest spots. She asked our favorite foods and made sure to incorporate those items in the tour. The food was AMAZING, but it was soooo much more than that. The special places, the shrines and temples, the stories behind the buildings, the history of the city…. She is full of knowledge about Japan and Osaka as a whole. It was incredibly informative - I learned SO much! She also let us talk her ear off and asked us about special foods from our home! And she was the best photographer (see pics below) I promise, this is one million percent worth it. Don’t pass up this once in a lifetime and unforgettable opportunity!
