- Dotombori - The vibrant entertainment and nightlife district of Dotonbori is Osaka’s most renowned tourist attraction. Known for its neon lights, extravagant signage, and a vast array of restaurants and bars, it is situated in Osaka’s southern Namba area. This colorful locale is a must-visit destination. The area is bustling with street food stalls, eateries, and bars. Osaka’s passion for food is often encapsulated in the phrase ‘kuidaore’, which is commonly understood as ‘eat until you drop’.
- Kuromon Market - Kuromon Market is one of the most famous markets in Osaka, celebrated as a gastronomic experience to enjoy when visiting the city. Visitors can explore Osaka’s soul foods and savor dishes at various restaurants and pubs.
- Tennoji Ward - The Hankai line is Osaka’s only tramline service and boasts a rich history. The Hankai Tramway company was established in 1910, though one of its lines dates back to 1900. Today, a variety of trams operate on the Hankai tramlines, ranging from sleek, modern models to vintage ones from as early as 1928. These trams traverse downtown Osaka, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of Japanese people.
A return ticket costs ¥460 for those over 12 and ¥240 for those under 12.
- Sumiyoshi Taisha - Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine is among Japan’s oldest shrines, founded in 211 by Empress Jingu. Known affectionately as “Sumiyosan” by locals, the shrine features in numerous Japanese stories, from ancient tales and the 11th-century Tale of Genji to more contemporary literary works. It also houses a memorial to Nobel Prize-winning author Kawabata Yasunari (1899-1972) and serves as the setting for his short story “Anti-Bashi” (1948). The shrine has stood for over 1,800 years and is regarded as a sacred place (vortex site).
- Shinsekai - Shinsekai is the dynamic southern part of Osaka city, home to Tsutenkaku Tower, a symbol of Osaka. This area is famous for Tsutenkaku, Janjan Yokocho, and large pufferfish lantern signs. Shinsekai’s origins date back to 1903, during the 5th National Industrial Exhibition held in Tennoji and present-day Shinsekai. A new attraction in Tsutenkaku, the “Tower Slider,” starts from the 3rd floor of Tsutenkaku Tower’s intermediate observatory (22 meters above ground). The slide spirals around the EV tower (one and a half turns) to the 1st basement floor (-4.5 meters above ground) in about 10 seconds, offering a thrilling experience. The fee is 1000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children up to 7 years old.
