Very interesting museum - Visited the museum as we were on the hop on hop off bus tour and decided to pay the Fram Museum a visit as we stopped in the vicinity and were so glad we did. The museum gives details of polar expeditions to both the North and South Poles and is very interesting. Make sure you visit the cinema first as it explains the expeditions briefly but covers all the points needed. You are able to board both vessels, the Gjoa and the Fram, and it is amazing to see how the explorers lived in very confined spaces. Would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Chance to walk on the original ship that visited the Arctic and the Antartic!!! - If you happen to visit Oslo, do keep a couple of hours aside to watch the Fram Museum. The museum houses the original Fram ship that was used in expeditions to both the North and the South Pole. We were told that almost all the items on the ship (books, sewing machine, windmill, steam engine, etc. The museum is located a short distance from Oslo. And it was thankfully not overcrowded when we visited. Currently, we are allowed to walk on and within the ship, but that may change sometime in the future. The items are well-kept and preserved. You are sure to feel a sense of wonder to imagine that this ship has been to both the Arctic and the Antarctic! Don't miss the short film, which talks about the expeditions. The museum is well-maintained.

to be missed !!! most interactive and interesting museum by far - we are a family of four with two teenagers. We’ve been too many museums in the world but this one is definitely on top of the list!! The Museum has fully utilised multimedia technology: on the top deck, they have re-created what it was like sailing to the south and North poles so make sure you stay there for awhile to immense yourself; Then you can go into the middle deck and see what life was like of a sailor on the exploration. Lots interesting facts to discover throughout the ship. That’s also a subzero cave where you can go into experience the coldness of the south and north Pole. Ensure you go into the igloo on the ground floor as well; that’s also a cinema where you can watch a movie, make sure you find it! The gift shop and bookstore at the exit apparently has the largest collection of polar exploration materials so if you’re into this topic ensure you save enough time for this store.

Fram Museum - worth the trip - Excellent museum. A little dark in places. I am assuming to preserve the ship but hard to read some of the exhibits. Took the ferry from Pier #3 at the City Hall. Very pleasant ride with the view of the Fjord.

A visual history of Arctic exploration - Not knowing in advance what to expect, I was blown away when I entered this museum to see not only a history of arctic maritime exploration, but the actual three-story-high Fram ship itself. You head floor by floor around the ship where there are descriptions and displays about the ship's many arctic voyages. You will see hide-bound kayaks used for hunting. You can ring the bell on the deck and explore the ship's lower floors. If you are planning on visiting the adjoining Kon-Tiki and Norwegian Maritime museums, take the short walk to the Fram. It is easily accessible by the 37 bus from central Oslo.

Fram Museum: An Inspiring Journey to Polar Adventure - The Fram Museum at Bygdøy is one of Oslo’s most fascinating and educational attractions, especially for those interested in exploration, adventure and polar exploration. The museum is dedicated to Norway’s proud polar history and houses the famous polar ship Fram, which was used by legendary explorers such as Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen and Otto Sverdrup. This museum provides a unique chance to learn more about some of the most impressive expeditions in human history. The first thing that hits you when you get in is the ship itself. It is incredibly impressive to see such a large and well-preserved vessel that has survived several extreme polar expeditions. The ship stands in the middle of the museum, and you can actually board and explore the inside. This gives a deep sense of how life must have been aboard these historic expeditions. It is both fascinating and a little overwhelming to imagine how the crew lived in such narrow and ice-cold environments during their dangerous journeys to the Arctic and Antarctica. The museum does a good job of presenting the history behind the great polar expeditions. Through interactive exhibitions, videos and objects from the expeditions, you will gain a thorough understanding of the challenges and dangers that exploration travelers Nansen and Amundsen faced. The exhibitions are both informative and engaging, and appeal to both adults and children. Another fantastic detail of the museum is that it also covers the scientific and technological advances that made these expeditions possible. You’ll get an insight into how the ship was built to withstand the ice masses, as well as how the crew survived under extreme conditions. This gives a broader perspective on how pioneering these expeditions were. For those who want even more, the museum also has a department dedicated to Roald Amundsens expedition to the South Pole, where you can learn more about how he became the first to reach the world’s southernmost point. Overall, the Fram Museum is an incredibly inspiring and teaching experience. It gives a deep respect to the brave explorers who dared into the unknown, and it is a place that really makes you reflect on human curiosity and adventurous lust. For anyone interested in history, science or adventure, this museum is an absolute must visit in Oslo.
