Thor Heyerdahl museum - Great small museum about Thor Heyerdahl - the Kon Tiki and the Ra, as well as his works. We found the exhibits very approachable and informative. This is a great activity for folks of all ages. I look forward to revisiting when I return to Oslo.

Awe and wonder - I had read "Kon-Tiki," the rapturous adventure of this raft voyage from Chile to the Polynesian Islands, when I was 12. Never did I ever think that almost 60 years later I would be standing within a few feet of the actual craft. The museum does an excellent job of not only telling but showing the entire history -- from conception to planning, from voyage to international acclaim. We spent over three hours here for in addition to the Kon-Tiki, it features the papyrus reed craft used to sail from South America to Europe. I highly recommend taking the extra hour to view the Oscar-winning, hour-long documentary that used a home move camera to capture what daily life on the voyage was like. It brought me there, to the actual voyage, where I got to see how these brave adventurers (including one who was a member of the brave Norwegians who blew up the Nazi's heavy water plant) adapted to ever changing conditions -- many of which had not before been chronicled. I kept wondering if I would have had the courage to attempt it. I concluded that the 12-year-old me is still very much alive as I was filled with awe and wonder.

The Easter Islands expedition from Oslo - I was completely unaware of this fantastic expedition to the Easter islands by Heyersdahl. This was an eye opener. We enjoyed this a lot

Worth a visit! - A great museum with a fantastic presentation, also for children. The adventurous story of Thor and his colleagues is known worldwide, but in this museum it really comes to life. Worth a visit! The only downside was a guide who paid no attention to the fact that there were other guests in the museum. But the museum probably can't do anything about this.

Kon-Tiki Museum: A fascinating window to adventure and exploration - Kon-Tiki Museum at Bygdøy is one of Oslo’s most exciting and inspiring attractions, especially for those interested in adventure, discoveries and world history. The museum is dedicated to Thor Heyerdahl, one of Norway’s most famous explorers, and his groundbreaking expeditions that challenged established scientific theories. The highlight of the museum is of course the original Kon-Tiki fleet, which Heyerdahl and his crew used in 1947 on his impressive journey across the Pacific. The fleet is incredibly well preserved and gives a real sense of the primitive conditions Heyerdahl and his team lived under for 101 days at sea. It’s almost unbelievable to see the fleet from close range and think that they actually crossed the sea on this simple vessel made of balsam trees. The museum tells the story of the Kon-Tiki expedition in an engaging way through filming, photographs, and informative exhibitions that give a thorough insight into Heyerdahl’s motivation, preparations and the expedition itself. In addition to the fleet, there are also models and exhibits showing other of Heyerdahl’s adventures, such as his travels with the sailboat Ra and his expeditions to Easter Island. This gives a holistic picture of a man who was not only an explorer, but also a pioneer in cross-cultural research. The museum does an excellent job of explaining the scientific significance of Heyerdahl's theories, especially his belief that people from South America could have sailed to Polynesia in prehistoric times. Although some of these theories have been controversial, the museum provides a balanced presentation that allows visitors to understand how pioneering Heyerdahl’s work was. There are also several interactive exhibitions, making the museum interesting for both adults and children. Especially the younger visitors will enjoy the engaging tasks that bring Heyerdahl’s adventures to life in a practical way. The museum has a quiet and inspiring atmosphere, and it is beautifully located on Bygdøy, where you can easily combine a visit with other nearby museums. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and they offer audio guides and information in multiple languages so that foreign visitors can also get the full benefit of the experience. Overall, Kon-Tiki Museum is a must for anyone who wants to learn more about Norwegian adventure and scientific exploration. It gives an exciting insight into a fascinating period of history and reminds us of the power of human curiosity and courage.

You Won't Believe It - Perhaps you saw the movie when you were young. Maybe you even read the book as a teenager. Who is Thor Heyerdahl? By any path that you find yourself at this museum, you will find it hard to believe that someone could survive the Pacific in a handmade raft. Apparently everyone else (almost) didn't believe he could sail from Peru to the South Pacific. Kudos to Gerd Vold Hurum, an unheralded member of the team. Without her help and connections the trip would not have been possible.

Great museum to get an understanding how great of an achievement this trip was. And how crazy. - We came as we went to the Fram museum before and while there thought to go for another one so close. Too much for our children. They were done after the Fram. So think carefully if your kids are not patient if you want to do two museums in a row. Otherwise very interesting to see the boat itself. You can also watch the movie if you have enough time.

More than museum we would say an exhibition - If the Louvre deserves 5 stars, the Kon-Tiki deserves half, even a quarter.... Let's be honest, if we talk about museums this has nothing to do, it's a very nice exhibition of these trips made by Thor Heyerdahl. It is incredible the story of the journey he made with the two ships present in this exhibition but we just can not speak of a museum. The ships were made of balsa and papyrus, placed in two different eras of the structure, which are connected by a corridor in which it seems to be in a cavern of Easter Island, where there are some ancient artifacts dating back to these territories. There is also a cinema room where a short film dating back to the journey is shown and with the explanation strictly in English. Some captions were in Italian but mostly in English or Norwegian only. At the end of the museum it seems to be in a bazaar, everything is really sold.... the museum souvenirs can be counted on the fingers of one hand, all the remaining merchandise are stuffed animals, games, soaps, etc... in short, not relevant to what seen before Adequate ticket cost 280 nok (23,81) for 2 adults, present lockers for storing bags and jackets with free key, clean bathrooms. The Kon- Tiki can be visited in an hour, so adjust for the parking fee (we used easypark) in the immediate vicinity Good vibes....the puppets
