Highlights
  • Vulkan Neighbourhood - Our experience starts in Vulkan, which is also called Oslo’s sustainable laboratory and it is a home for the first food hall in Oslo, the Mathallen.

This will also be our final station so don’t worry, you will have plenty of time to explore the area and maybe taste some more of the local treats in Mathallen after the tour!

  • Syverkiosken - It’s time to move towards an absolutely unique hidden gem - the oldest sausage stand in Oslo that sells sausages for more than 40 years! You will learn a bit more about the history of the kiosk as well as Norwegian sausage culture. And of course, you will taste a proper Norwegian hot dog too!
  • Grunerlokka - Our next stop will be in Grünerløkka, a district best known for the best coffee shops, food culture and small local shops that cannot be found anywhere else in Oslo. Here you will be able to taste typical Norwegian waffles, served with brown cheese, jam and sour cream and learn some fun facts about the waffle culture in Norway.
  • Akerselva River - Akerselva River used to be a crib of Norwegian industrial revolution and today, it’s considered the ‘green lungs’ of Oslo. During the tour, we will walk around some of the most beautiful places around the river, including impressive buildings and beautiful bridges and waterfalls.

Street Food Plus - Our guide, Wolfgang, was very knowledgable. Our tour started with a sampling of traditional Norwegian foods, accompanied by a beer or alternative beverage. Wolfgang gave us a general orienation while we sampled, then we set out on a walking tour while he shared more tidbits about the history of the areas we passed. We got to meet the owner of the last remaining hot dog stand in Oslo while we sampled his wares. Culinary highlight for me was the *best* waffle, accompanied by Norwegian condiments. Delicious and informative!

Food heaven - Highly recommend this tour. Astrid was an excellent guide, exploring a part of Oslo that we would not necessarily have visited, yet close to our hotel. The meats, cheese and spruce jelly were excellent. Loaded hotdogs in a potato pancake, and as for the waffle, well tasty but messy. Having become a lover of brown cheese on various visits to Norway, and even my husband with his Norwegian origins had not thought to combine jam, brown cheese and sour cream. The waffle maker will be out. Thank you for an enjoyable, enlightening and tasty few hours

Best Food & Walking Tour EVER - We are still talking about this food tour a year later. (We went August 3, 2023) Our guide was wonderful. She was very clear where to meet up and what time. She was so fun and was very knowledgeable about the city, the food and the history. BEST food tour we have ever been on. We loved the 🦌Reindeer , moose 🫎 and whale 🐋 sausage with Lingonberries, a local made spicy cola ( Toyen Kola) , Reindeer hotdog 🌭, hot cocoa & Vaffel 🧇 was our fav! Highly recommend this tour. I wish I could remember our guide's name, but she deserves a huge pay raise. Wear comfortable walking shoes, lots of hills and cobblestone streets. We logged over 23,000 steps that day.

Oslo Alternative Culture and Street Food Tour - Astrid was an awesome guide! She was professional and thorough and a pleasure to learn from during this must do activity. This was one of our most favorite activities as we traveled throughout Norway. We felt like we learned so much about the food and culture and definitely visited some areas we probably would not have seen on our own. I highly recommend this tour!

Everything as Promised - I was chagrined to read some recent poor reviews of this tour so went into it with a critical eye. I would discount those reviews as being from people with overblown expectations and inability to climb a hill (probably American) as this tour delivered everything it promised. Katerina was a delight and gave a solid and informative tour with plenty of info on this unique, 3 borough neighborhood with lots of good stories. The food… yes, it’s STREET FOOD! Don’t take this tour if you’re expecting Michelin rated bites. We got a quality sampling of traditional Norwegian fare that wasn’t going to be glammed up. And since I don’t like sour beers, a simple ask got me a good Norwegian Pilsner. Let’s be honest about the hot dog… they’re universal … taste is more tied to the experience (sand on your wiener at the beach or ashes from the campfire make em so much better) and this one was no different. A quality dog from a greasy shack in the alley is what it is… adequate but tied well into the sojourn (and they had Vegan options). And the waffle… well, it was fantastically delicious with all the trimmings. Just needed a good nap after! This is a great tour that happily gets you out of touristy areas and walking through quaint, urban beauty with waterfalls, woods, parks and bridges. It was an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. Great tour - excellent guide - Learning about the area, the history of the city. Leon, the guide, was fantastic. ENgaged with everyone, answered many questions, was personable, entertaining and knowledgeable. Trying different food was a great experience. Have done food tours aroudn the world and this was one of the best because of the exoerienced guide. Highly recommended!

Great guide but a disappointing experience - Our guide Astrid was fantastic - friendly and knowledgable and went out of her way to make the whole group welcomed and included and impart her energy and enthusiasm for Oslo. Unfortunately the content of the tour was poor - there was nothing of any real interest to see along the route and the three food stops were not very inspiring - the cold meat platter was daily interesting (moose, reindeer, whale) but a hot dog and a waffle are hardly unique inspiring local food choices. We had a good afternoon and I enjoyed Astrid as a guide, but this was a very expensive tour that did not deliver very much.
