Hovedøya - The first ferry ride, lasting under ten minutes, takes us to the historic island of Hovedøya in the Oslo Fjord. Known for its medieval monastery ruins from the 12th century, this island offers a chance to explore atmospheric abbey ruins, stroll through the monastery cemetery, and enjoy a scenic walk along one of the island’s trails. It’s a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle. Along the way, you’ll also encounter remnants of the island’s military history, soak in stunning panoramic views of the fjord, and even have the opportunity to take a quick swim at one of Hovedøya’s many beaches.

Nakholmen Island - Next, we board the ferry again for a delightful 25-minute cruise to Nakholmen Island, with three additional stops along the way where we stay on the boat, offering glimpses of neighboring islands. Nakholmen differs significantly from Hovedøya, primarily because it is inhabited. With around 180 charming coastal cottages, Nakholmen is a beloved summer and weekend retreat for families, showcasing the importance of cabin culture in Norway. It’s a special piece of Norwegian paradise.
