Geilo - The bus departs at 12:45 directly in front of Geilo train station, marked with a “Jaunt Norway” sign on the windshield. The driver will attempt to park directly in front of the station, but if the spot is occupied, the bus will be a few meters further down in the village. There are public toilets, shops, and restaurants available. The first toilet stop after leaving Geilo is approximately one and a half hours later. You have about 45 minutes in Geilo before the bus departs, allowing time for a coffee or a small snack.
-
Hardangervidda National Park - Travel comfortably across the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. Marvel at the extraordinary and breathtaking landscape, featuring rugged mountains, deep valleys, and unique flora and fauna. This area is home to Europe’s largest reindeer population, and some snow remains until August. After a short drive, the landscape changes dramatically. The tree line here in the north is around 900 meters, while Hardangervidda’s highest point is about 1500 meters above sea level. Weather permitting, we will make one or two photo stops along the way.
-
Voringfossen - Vøringfossen waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder that should be on everyone’s itinerary when traveling between Oslo and Bergen. With a total drop of 182 meters and a major drop of 163 meters, it’s one of Norway’s most impressive waterfalls and a major tourist attraction. As you approach, the thunderous sound of rushing water and mist rising from the base of the falls greet you. We’ll stop at the parking lot, a short walk from the viewing platform. Public toilets are available. The nearby Fossli Hotel has a cozy café worth visiting. Outside of summer, enjoy a coffee by the crackling fireplace. We’ll spend about 30 minutes here, admiring the waterfall and surrounding landscape. Travel time to the next stop is about one and a half hours.
-
Eidfjord Municipality - Continuing our drive into the valley, we reach the charming village of Eidfjord after about 20 minutes. Nestled on the banks of the Eidfjord, this small village offers breathtaking views of the fjord and its surrounding mountains.
-
Hardanger Bridge - After driving along the fjord for another 20 minutes, we enter a tunnel and emerge at a traffic circle inside the tunnel where we turn left. A minute later, we find ourselves on the Hardanger Bridge, a 1,380-meter-long engineering marvel standing 55 meters tall. It was the longest bridge in Norway and the 10th longest in the world when it opened. Crossing the Hardanger Bridge, we enter a tunnel leading deep into the rock. After about 500 meters, we arrive at a roundabout ingeniously constructed within the rock. From there, we enter the 7 km long Vallaviktunnel, taking us back to the other side of the Hardangerfjord. As we continue our drive along the scenic fjord, we’re treated to more awe-inspiring views of the surrounding landscape. Towering cliffs and shimmering waters flank the road, providing a stunning backdrop to our journey.
-
Oystese - Øystese is a small and beautiful village located in the municipality of Kvam in Vestland county, Norway. It’s situated along the Hardangerfjord and is known for its stunning natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. There’s a shopping area, a sandy beach, a marina, and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy in the area. Unfortunately, we don’t have time for a stop on this tour and will therefore only drive through this lovely place.
-
Steinsdalsfossen Waterfall - As we approach the Steinsdalsfossen waterfall near Norheimsund, the sound of rushing water fills the air. The towering falls, formed centuries ago when the river changed course, stand at a majestic 50 meters, making it one of Norway’s most impressive waterfalls. A winding path leads behind the waterfall, allowing visitors to marvel at the cascading water from the safety of the rock face. This unique and picturesque spot is a must-see for any traveler, with ample time to explore its wonders. For added convenience, there are public toilets and a tourist information center on-site. When a break is needed, the cozy café offers a warm cup of coffee and a selection of souvenirs. The old stone arch bridge is a delightful sight that adds to the area’s character. We stay here for 25 minutes, with travel time to Bergen about one and a half hours.
-
Bergen - After exploring the waterfall, we continue our journey to Bergen. The remaining 1.5 hours of our trip offer more beautiful scenery, and we’ll arrive in the heart of the city in no time. If staying at a hotel in the city center, our bus will drop you off at the door for a seamless and convenient arrival. If not, we’ll get you as close as possible to your final destination.
