Oslo Central Station, situated in the heart of Norway’s capital, is a lively transportation hub and the starting point for numerous train journeys. With its sleek, modern architecture and convenient facilities, it offers a comfortable environment. Embark on a magical journey from Oslo to Geilo, a scenic train ride through some of Norway’s most stunning landscapes. The 156 km route provides breathtaking views, from rolling hills and lush valleys to snow-capped mountain peaks. Operated by Norwegian Railways (VY), the train offers a comfortable and convenient travel experience, allowing passengers to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Along the way, charming towns and villages offer insights into Norway’s rich history and culture. Remember to disembark at Geilo Station.

Geilo - The bus departs at 12:45 directly in front of Geilo train station, marked with a “Jaunt Norway” sign on the windshield. The driver will attempt to park directly in front of the station, but if the spot is occupied, the bus will be a few meters further down in the village. There are public toilets, shops, and restaurants available. The first toilet stop after departing Geilo is approximately one and a half hours later.

Hardangervidda National Park - Travel comfortably across the Hardangervidda mountain plateau and marvel at the extraordinary landscape, featuring rugged mountains, deep valleys, and unique flora and fauna. This area is home to Europe’s largest reindeer population, with some snow persisting until August. After a short drive, the landscape changes dramatically, with the tree line in the north at around 900 meters. The highest point of Hardangervidda is about 1500 meters above sea level. Weather permitting, there will be one or two photo stops along the way.

Voringfossen - Vøringfossen waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder that should be on every traveler’s list when journeying between Oslo and Bergen. With a total drop of 182 meters and a major drop of 163 meters, it is one of Norway’s most impressive waterfalls and a major tourist attraction. As you approach, the thunderous sound of rushing water and mist rising from the base of the falls greet you. We’ll stop at the parking lot, a short walk from the viewing platform, where public toilets are available. Nearby, the Fossli Hotel offers a cozy cafe worth visiting. Outside of summer, enjoy a cup of coffee by the crackling fireplace. We’ll spend about 30 minutes here, admiring the waterfall and surrounding landscape. Travel time to the next stop is approximately one and a half hours.

Eidfjord Municipality - Continuing the drive into the valley, the charming village of Eidfjord is reached after about 20 minutes. Nestled on the banks of the Eidfjord, this small village offers breathtaking views of the fjord and surrounding mountains.

Hardanger Bridge - After 20 minutes along the fjord, a stop is made at the Hardanger Bridge. A short path leads to a viewpoint with stunning views of the bridge and Eidfjord, where a public restroom is also available. The journey continues through a tunnel, emerging at a roundabout where a left turn leads to the 1,380-meter-long and 55-meter-high Hardanger Bridge, once Norway’s longest and the world’s tenth longest. After crossing, the route enters a tunnel carved into the rock, reaching a roundabout 500 meters in, leading into the 7 km long Vallaviktunnel, returning to the other side of the Hardangerfjord. The journey along the picturesque fjord offers impressive views of towering cliffs and shimmering waters, creating a breathtaking backdrop.

Oystese - Øystese is a small, beautiful town in Kvam municipality, Vestland county, Norway. Located along the Hardangerfjord, it is known for its stunning natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere. The area features a shopping area, sandy beach, marina, and numerous outdoor activities. Unfortunately, there is no time for a stop on this tour, so the journey will continue through this lovely place.

Steinsdalsfossen Waterfall - Approaching Steinsdalsfossen waterfall near Norheimsund, the sound of rushing water fills the air. The towering falls, formed centuries ago when the river changed course, stand at a majestic 50 meters, making it one of Norway’s most impressive waterfalls. A winding path leads behind the waterfall, offering a unique view of the cascading water from the safety of the rock face. This picturesque spot is a must-see for travelers, with ample time to explore its wonders. Public toilets and a tourist information center are on-site, and a cozy cafe offers coffee and souvenirs. The old stone arch bridge adds to the area’s charm. The stay here is 25 minutes, with travel time to Bergen about one and a half hours.

Bergen - After exploring the waterfall, the journey continues to Bergen. The remaining 1.5 hours of travel offer equally beautiful scenery, arriving in the heart of the city promptly. The bus stops at the tourist information center in Bergen’s center, near the fish market.
